Basically the reason why the continuous shooting mode doesn't always fire at the rated 4 fps is because the camera is trying to adjust the shutter speed for the lighting. So the darker it is the slower the shutter. The brighter the light the faster the shutter.

Um, ultimate might be a bit strong, given this is their entry level DSLR.
Stick with the Nikon D90.
