Lips: Number One Hits Interview »

Even though Lips didn't make the kind of impact on music games Microsoft might have been hoping for, designer Keiichi Yano is still collaborating with Microsoft on a new version, Lips: Number One Hits, set to arrive later this year on Xbox 360. While in Japan for Tokyo Game Show, we stopped by Yano's offices at iNiS to chat about Lips, his thoughts on Project Natal (it sounds like he's working on some projects) and his biggest competition in the karaoke space, SingStar.

Bayonetta Dev's Opinions On Motion Controls, Casual Games: If It Makes Sense

There are two questions asked in just about every interview with any prominent developer these days (and ones I did pass on while talking to Bayonetta producer Yusuku Hashimoto recently at Tokyo Game Show), questions asked because, well, people want to know.

1. What do you think of motion controls now that every platform is adopting them?
2. Does the Wii create an increased pressure to develop casual games or casual features?

The responses tend to vary. Some developers, almost instinctually, are quick to show rabid support for the new control interfaces and figuring out ways to embrace this expanded audience. Hashimoto, however, pretty much answered my questions with the same answer: "that's a weird question, Mr. G4tv.com interviewer, because why would I just randomly adapt a radical new concept for my games unless it made sense?" (He didn't actually say it like that). I, of course, smile and nod.

On if he's keen to develop games for this new audience…

I'm hoping its good. I could care less about motion controls with action games. Who freaking cares if I get an assist with a projectile. Save that for the minigames.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Preview »

There's an understandable focus on a certain shooter coming from Infinity Ward and Activision later this fall, but don't forget about what Electronic Arts and DICE have cooking up with Battlefield: Bad Company 2 -- the first game surprised a lot of people. X-Play's Morgan Webb spoke with executive producer Karl-Magnus Troedsson during Tokyo Game Show about the newly unveiled Arizona Desert map, destructible environments, singleplayer campaign and more.

Nice, I'm a Battlefield Vet...This game is gonna cost, what, about $60? If EA took just $10, of the $60, and upgraded the servers things would be a whole lot better for everyone. Let's just hope that they (EA) do upgrade the servers...they're horrible...

Dead Rising 2 TGS 09 Preview »

You're getting two for the price of one in this video preview of Dead Rising 2, Capcom's long-awaited sequel. The dead have meandered their way over to Las Vegas this time around, and while Frank West is nowhere to be seen, the G4 crew showed up at Capcom's nighttime Tokyo Game Show event to go hands-on with sections of both the singleplayer and multiplayer for Dead Rising 2.

Mmm…virtual brains.

Dante's Inferno Lust Level Preview »

Dante's Inferno has a habit of eliciting some strong opinions. It's shaping up to be a very competent spin on God of War, but some of the content surrounding it has raised eyebrows. Electronic Arts premiered the sexually-charged "Lust" stage at Tokyo Game Show recently and X-Play's Morgan Webb quizzed executive producer Jonathan Knight about his team's aspirations for this area.

Love the art direction plus it already looks really polished. I think the only thing bringing it down would be the lack of weapons. Only 2? Hopefully you'll have a huge arsenal of combos and magic.

Sometimes, you just need to take two swords to hundreds upon hundreds of enemies in bloody and epic battles. Thankfully, Feel Plus’ Xbox 360 exclusive Ninety-Nine Nights II looks to be just the thing to scratch this particular itch, as evidenced by this in-game footage we grabbed from TGS 2009. I can’t really tell you if the game will be good or not, but the one question the footage does appear to answer is: What does a 978 hit combo looks like?

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles TGS 09 Interviews »

With the next major Resident Evil a long ways off (they're still figuring out who will produce the game through in-house poker games!), Capcom will be giving gamers more insight into the world of survival horror with Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. This is Capcom's second lightgun Resident Evil shooter on the Wii, but since the first was so well received, the team seems especially excited about the second one. At Tokyo Game Show, we talked to some of the folks behind the game about that.

Forza Motorsport 3 TGS 09 Interview »

Microsoft and Turn 10 Studios will drop its latest racer, Forza Motorsport 3, in just a few weeks on Xbox 360. G4's been closely following the development of Forza Motorsport 3, especially since the genre's so heated this fall, and we recently caught up with Turn 10 lead producer Brian Lockhart at Tokyo Game Show for some last minute updates on the game before gamers have their hands on it.

RRODisBack you appear on everything talking about things you think you know about. its like you browse the site 24 hours a day just trying to stir up trouble....

Forza 3 will be a great game, but to me its gonna be really hard trying to decide which is going to be better Forza or Grand turismo 5... I've been a Grand turismo fan since the first one hit the shelves, But since they are both racing games i will surely love them no matter if they are on ps3 or xbox 360. I will have to...

Microsoft showed off a number of new Xbox Live Arcade titles at Tokyo Game Show, including community-driven Joy Ride (which we actually saw for the first time at E3) and the offense-plus-defense tower defense game Toy Soldiers. Both games are showing serious promise for different reasons, but if you've been looking forward to better glimpse at both Joy Ride and Toy Soldiers, I have something you might be interested in.

At Tokyo Game Show 2009, Tecmo was showing off Quantum Theory, a game that most people are calling the Japanese take on Gears of War. To find out more about what Tecmo is thinking with Quantum Theory, we shoved the game's director, Makoto Shibata, into a chair during the show and asked him to explain himself. Go!

Look out Professor Layton! There’s a new crime solver on the scene, and his name is Jonathan Weaver, an FBI special agent, and star of Cing Inc.’s Nintendo DS title Again. What makes Weaver so special? Oh, nothing really, except he has super special senses that let him see clues that other non-special agents can’t. That's all. We chatted with producer Koichi Yamaguchi to see what else this story-driven mystery game is hiding.
