We've all played clones before. When a big franchise develops a great gameplay mechanic and becomes popular it's only a matter of time before other publishers and developers start pumping out very familiar feeling games. Adam Sessler was reminded of this while he was writing his review of Dante's Inferno, and some of you didn't take too kindly to his references to the God of War series. So, being the humanitarian that he is, Adam decided to use this week's Soapbox to explain himself to you, his loyal audience. Find out why The Sess thinks that not all clones are bad, just the ones that lack innovation and originality. Like that crappy Bruce Willis movie.
Sessler's Soapbox: Dante's Inferno - When Cloning Goes Wrong
Dante's Inferno was released this week. My review sparked some intense debate, especially from gamers with a deep love for God of War. If you want to go beyond the review, though, check out my discussion with Adam Sessler, where I had a chance to expand on some points in the review and reflect on what it's like to read through a very deep pool of heated (but welcomed!) commentary.
It's funny how Patrick had to go on here with Sessler to help justify his review. From the way you were talking here, you should have given it a 4/5. Maybe you guys should look into giving two scores. One for fans of the genre/series of games, where you know they're gonna check it out, and one score for those that aren't really familiar with the genre/series.
Also, putting it out there (this is to you Patrick) that you confronting the volatile comments on your reviews, or articles...

Leave a Comment »Don't Pass This One By - The Dark Void Soundtrack Review

Capcom's Dark Void released late last month to a less-than-stellar reception. The game’s official soundtrack album drops on Tuesday of next week and, hopefully, the lukewarm reviews the game received won’t overshadow the fact that this is a fantastic set of music, including a very unique gem of a bonus track. Even if this game isn’t registering a blip on your radar, you really should take in its sounds.
After a first week release of 160,000 copies sold on both systems. I doubt if you will see a DARK VOID2. I would rather Capcom spend there time , money, resources on what they do best. Fighting games! Yes mega man is going strong, as well as RE and Phoenix Wright. There is just no room for below average games like this.
It was that bad, average controls, flying was cool. Story sucked hardcore!!! I would rather see a MVC3 and or Darkstalkers before looking at this poop on a disk again.

This week The MMO Report brings you the first gameplay trailer for The Secret World, shows off the new World of Warcraft arena season 8 armor sets, and tells you about the announcement of the next Lord of the Rings Online expansion. What more could you want? Now go back to your Lost fanboy messageboards so I can steal your crack-pot theories and pass them off as my own around the G4 offices.
Apparently gameplay where virtually everything you do is instanced didn't suit any of the people who left EVE online to check STO out. Random forums all over the net talk of people who've tried out STO scrambling to get eve-o trial accounts. It's gonna be a good year for CCP. :S

Leave a Comment »In case you've been living under a rock all week, X-Play just celebrated their 1000th episode, so it makes sense that The Sess would use this week's Soapbox to look back at how games have evolved since he started working in television. Considering the first game that Adam ever talked about on camera was the very first Unreal, much has changed since then. So take this unique opportunity to peak into the mind of Adam Sessler as he reminisces about his career, the games he's played, and the years that have passed in between.
Happy 1000th episode X-Play!
im not sure if i commented this video before but yes im glad xplay aired cause i think games and humor works well and with morgan and them busts of hers makes it sweet to see adam talk about games lol jk but yes i love this show i watch everyday i can't really say i remember when i started but i never saw the first one till they showed it now but sometimes im not sure if u actually review all games anymore now its down to 2 or one review an episode

Leave a Comment »No game soundtrack review this weekend gang. We've got you something cooler. Jack Wall, video game soundtrack composer and co-creator/conductor of the Video Games Live concert tour, took time to answer some questions (including one from one of you!) about the music of Mass Effect 2.
The Feed: Is this really your first video game soundtrack since Mass Effect? Have you been that busy with Video Games Live and other things?
Jack Wall: Yes, actually that's true. I wanted to focus on making VGL a success in 2008/9 as we had enormous opportunity to travel all over the world and build a brand as well as conduct some of the finest orchestras in the world playing some great music. It's been a tremendously rewarding experience. With ME2, I was very excited to get back to composing and producing which represents my creative core that I never want to let go. It's good to be back!
Seeing as how Brian is one of my best friends, it was nice to see him mentioned here. Love the game so far, great job on the music implementation. Hope to one day get to see VGL.

Blair, I don't know about others but the only reason why I read The Walking Dead in trade is because I can't find a comic book store near me.

I'm torn on the whole Fallout MMO thing. There are a lot of things that make FO3 a hands-down better game than the three version of FO that Interplay put out... but some of the crazy things you did in FO2 were really missing in FO3. I mean come on, name another game that lets you marry a cow (literally, watch it folks...)

Leave a Comment »Feedback -- No More Heroes 2 Edition (With Some Mass Effect 2)
Between Apple's iPad reveal and the release of Mass Effect 2, it's been a big week for nerrdom at G4. We actually recorded this week's Feedback before the iPad event, so the crew had to table thoughts on Apple's newest revelations for a few days, but that didn't stop Adam Sessler, Abbie Heppe, Sterling McGarvey and myself from having some of our most heated Feedback discussions yet.
In this week's Feedback...
- We debate whether Sony's rumored name for their motion controller, Arc, makes any sense and what the delay into fall means for the looming battle with both Wii and Project Natal.
- Eidos Interactive announced that Just Cause 2 for PlayStation 3 will have YouTube support, something everyone on Feedback hopes becomes integrated into, well, everything.
- If you purchase Mass Effect 2 used, the Cerberus Network will cost you $15. Users raised concerns about what this means for the future, but we're not so certain it's doomsday.
- Suda 51 returns to the Wii with No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle, which reviewer Sterling McGarvey says improves on all fronts. Plus, the Bayonetta sex debate returns!
- A user ponders whether BioWare's pioneering efforts to have actions influence multiple games is a movement the rest of the industry should be following. But is that asking too much?
Feedback, telling game developers they're creepy because, well, we're creepy, too.
Attention Podcasters: The iTunes feed for this online show will be discontinued as of January 31st. I can understand that the game company are losing money but at the same time they charge for dlc content. Either way, they get our money. Half the time don't game developers have dlc content finished before release date?

Leave a Comment »Sessler's Soapbox: Mass Effect 2: Making January Awesome
It's a bit unorthodox for a highly anticipated game to be released in January. We're all used to the deluge of big titles coming out in the holiday shopping season, but what are we supposed to play the rest of the year?
That is exactly why Adam is so glad that Mass Effect 2 came out this week. To quote the man himself, "sometimes a game just scratches that itch. I had an itch and Mass Effect 2 scratched it." To get all the details from the man himself, press play and then let us know what you think in the comments.

Leave a Comment »The soundtrack album for Halo Legends makes landfall a full week before the release of the DVD. The highly anticipated anime anthology will expand the Halo verse with both canon and non-canon stories, brought to life by some of Japan’s top animation studios. Since we haven’t gotten a Halo live-action movie yet (grrrr, do want!), this marks the first time Halo’s music appears outside of a video game. How does it hold up in this very logical and exciting extension of the franchise? Does it have the Halo sound? Let’s take a listen, shall we?
Halo composers Martin O'Donnell and Michael Salvatori have officially joined an elite new group of people in the music world. To be a part of this rarified club, you don't have to win an award, be voted in or even have your brilliant career cut short by a night of binge drinking. The group includes names like Monty Norman, Alexander Courage and John Williams. There is only one way to be a part of this elite group. Compose a piece of music (or a suite of numerous themes) which is engrained into the very fabric of the material for which they were written, becoming mandatory pieces in future iterations of the same creative work. This is precisely what has become of the music O'Donnell and Salvatori created for the Halo universe and how it fits into the forthcoming anime film, Halo Legends.
I'd rather like the musical preformace done at the EA confrence for Halo 3, you know, the one with the violenist and the live band.

What are you doing this weekend? We were wondering if maybe you want to check out G4tv.com on Saturday and Sunday, because we're going to bring you a couple of community-centric features to enjoy!
- Reply To All: In TheFeed's "Reply to All," Andrew Pfister, America's most manly gaming journalist, will answer mail from G4's readers. This week, Andrew is talking about "gaming memory," waxing poetic about the existence or non-existence of the Apple Tablet, and hopefully eating another disgusting sandwich. Check back on Saturday morning for a look inside Andrew's bag.
- Reader Reach-Around: This Sunday marks the triumphant(?) return of TheFeed's Reader Reach-Around, the feature where we reward you, the commenter, for being awesome. It works like this: Every time you post a comment on our site, we read it and judge you, silently determining your worth. The best comments of the week will be highlighted in The Reach-Around, and remarkable, exclusive swag will be mailed to our funniest, most thoughtful, most informative commenters -- it's like a reward for being amazing. It all happens this Sunday morning, so make sure you check back and see if you receive a reach-around of your own.
"Exclusive Swag" as in a G4TV bumper sticker or "exclusive swag" as in Mr. Johnson's moustache trimmings?
