We've all played clones before. When a big franchise develops a great gameplay mechanic and becomes popular it's only a matter of time before other publishers and developers start pumping out very familiar feeling games. Adam Sessler was reminded of this while he was writing his review of Dante's Inferno, and some of you didn't take too kindly to his references to the God of War series. So, being the humanitarian that he is, Adam decided to use this week's Soapbox to explain himself to you, his loyal audience. Find out why The Sess thinks that not all clones are bad, just the ones that lack innovation and originality. Like that crappy Bruce Willis movie.

Not Even Old Internet Memes Are Safe From Naughty Bear
505 Games and A2M continue to keep things concise about what type of attitude their upcoming action, arcade project, Naughty Bear, will be bearing. Peanut Butter Jelly with a baseball bat... indeed.
Next Assassin's Creed Takes Place In Rome, Stars Ezio

The Ubisoft info train just keeps rolling today, as the publisher has revealed that the next Assassin’s Creed, which continues the story of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, will take place in Rome. The confirmation came during Ubisoft’s third quarter financial call.
Seeing as the first game ended in Italy’s capital city, this news is far from surprising, but it’s still good to know, especially since, as Ubisoft explained, it means Ezio will be taking the fight to those dastardly Templars on their turf. It’s about time too. I mean, if you don’t count the end of Assassin’s Creed II.
Ubisoft also said that the game will feature "very innovative assassination multiplayer,” and that the publisher will be putting a heavy emphasis on cooperative multiplayer in all future titles as well.
What do you think about continuing Ezio’s story as opposed to jumping into a new character in a different time period?
Dante's Inferno was released this week. My review sparked some intense debate, especially from gamers with a deep love for God of War. If you want to go beyond the review, though, check out my discussion with Adam Sessler, where I had a chance to expand on some points in the review and reflect on what it's like to read through a very deep pool of heated (but welcomed!) commentary.
another excellent talkabout. thank you g4 for these they help so much with the decision of whether to buy a game. there is just something about hearing the opinion that makes a whole lot more difference then just reading the review. it also is great to hear the thought process of the reviewer. whoever thought of these talkabouts needs a raise.

Ubisoft announced today that the next installment in its hit Ghost Recon series will be hitting shelves this holiday season for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier (which just sounds like a streamlined way of saying “Advanced Warfighter,” right?) is being developed by Ubisoft Paris, the team behind the Advanced Warfighter and Advanced Warfighter 2. Ubisoft says the game "will go beyond the core Ghost Recon franchise and deliver a fresh gameplay experience, with an unparalleled level of quality that will excite long-time fans and newcomers alike."
There will also be a multiplayer beta this summer, but if you want access to it, you’ll have to pick up a copy of Splinter Cell: Conviction (poor you!).
YEAAAAAAA, made my day, Loned GRAW 1 and 2. time to play some more

What kind of game is it?
A modern day beat 'em up. A hack 'n slash. Have you played God of War? You have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Dante's Inferno. Dead Space developer Visceral Games have lifted the best elements of God of War's combat and tossed it into a journey through Hell that's based on the first part of Dante Alighieri's three-part epic poem, The Divine Comedy. Dante must travel through the nine circles of Hell to save his princess from none other than Lucifer.
Who's the developer?
Visceral Games, formerly known as EA Redwood Shores, is same studio within Electronic Arts that developed Dead Space. It's not the same team (they're working on Dead Space 2), but you can definitely tell it's from the same thinktank. They also worked on the internally developed the Wii spin-off, Dead Space: Extraction, both The Godfather games and The Simpsons Game.
Can someone please tell me what day the Gaming X10 event is going to be on?

Even though baseball is labeled as a team sport, any good fan knows how easily a game can come down to the dramatic interaction between a great pitcher or hitter. The sports equivalent of a duel. This special installment of the MLB 2K10 Hitters vs. Pitchers series focuses on the retooled hitting and pitching mechanics in the game.
the 2k baseball games have been exactly the same since 2k7 and I didn't really see anything that made me think this one would play any better. The Show has been the best since 06. I will definitely rent this game since I only have an xbox, but I'll probably be disappointed again.

This week sees the release of two biggies: 2K’s high profile sequel BioShock 2 and EA’s God of War-plus-classic-literature action title Dante’s Inferno. Both games are certainly worthy of your time, but you might want to check out Patrick Klepek’s Dante’s review and my BioShock 2 review to see what you can expect from both titles. After all, a man/woman chooses; a slave obeys.

Awesome Week in my books, Bioshock 2 and Dante's Inferno both seem like excellent games and could be GOTY contenders, of course not for G4 but maybe for me personally.

Electronic Arts and Criterion Games keep teasing about what the Burnout developer has planned for their reinvention of Need For Speed. But we have a slightly better idea of what's coming.
John Schappert, who left EA to join Microsoft before returning to EA last year as COO, described the upcoming collaboration as an "action-based Need For Speed." Schappert's brief comment came during a conference call today discussing the publisher's most recent financial results.
Unfortunately, that's all he said. Something to think about, though.

One thing I did notice is that Need For Speed Most Wanted was directed by a man name Scott Henshaw, so I IMDB'd his name and he's credited for directing EA games like NFS Most Wanted, Skate, SSX, SSX Tricky and SSX3, as well as Def Jam Vendeta and Fight For NY (that's a 7 for 7 record of making good games); I say get his ass to direct the next NFS game and EA can bring the series back to its former glory.

Congratulations to both BioWare and Valve are in order. Dragon Age: Origins has sold 2.7 million copies worldwide since its launch and Left 4 Dead 2 has moved 2.9 million units.
The numbers were revealed during an Electronic Arts call detailing their latest financial results.
Both Dragon Age: Origins and Left 4 Dead 2 were released in November last year. Both were available on both Xbox 360 and PC. Only Left 4 Dead 2 was not available on PlayStation 3.

Im wondering how you were disappointed. By the amazing amount of armor and weapons. Or maybe it was the massive storyline. Maybe it was the in depth class system. Or maybe it was the fact that you didnt play enough of huge game to truly appreciate it. I'm not angry. i love both of these games, but you cant fairly judge a game you didnt play enough of to appreciate.

Electronic Arts revealed a heaping pile of not-terribly specific information today regarding its stable of 2010 release today in their third quarter fiscal year 2010 report.
Among the upcoming titles listed in the report is a new shooter from Gears of War developer Epic Games scheduled for release in Q4. The report says EA will co-publish the game, suggesting that the game itself might not actually be developed by Epic, but rather by one of Epic’s own studios.
EA also confirmed the existence of a new Dragon Age game for Q4 as well. There is also mention of the Sims 3 coming to consoles, a new Sims games, and a new Spore game.
In addition, EA Sports Active will be getting two new titles, as will the Need for Speed series. There will also be a downloadable “Action Title” for consoles coming out at the end of the year, as well as a new fighting game.
We’re going to try and get to the bottom of these mystery titles immediately, and as soon as we find out more, we’ll let you know.
well i for one do not like the idea of dragon age 2 coming out so soon this year. if they try and make it by the end of this year you know that it will be no where as good as the first because they would not have as much time to make it as they did with the first one which i think took a couple of years to complete and even it still had a few problems.
the idea to make sims 3 go online probably wouldnt work. ea has already tried making the sims be an online game with the sims...

What kind of game is it?
BioShock 2 is the sequel to the brilliant 2007 first-person shooter BioShock. While the original balanced horror and combat, action takes a more dominant role in the follow-up. You still might want to keep a clean pair of pants around though just to be safe.
Who's the developer?
2K Marin cut their teeth porting the original BioShock, which was developed by Irrational Games (formerly 2K Boston), to the PlayStation 3 back in 2008. BioShock 2 is the studio’s first original game since being founded in 2007.
I'm super excited for the next installment of one of my favourite games.

When Bethesda Softworks released the first trailer for the Obsidian Entertainment-developed Fallout: New Vegas, there were promises of more details from various magazine covers.
Those promises are coming true, as Fallout fan community Duck and Cover has started poring through the magazines passing on the first details on Fallout: New Vegas. The big takeaways?
You are not playing as a Vault Dweller, but you do run into someone who is, so you're eventually given access to the ever-useful Pip-Boy. The central storyline depicts the struggles between New California Republic vs. Caesar's Legion vs. New Vegas residents. The New Vegas residents are in a good place, too, since Las Vegas was largely untouched by the nuclear war.
Fallout: New Vegas will pander to the hardcore crowd, too. Literally. Fallout: New Vegas includes a "hardcore" mode where characters will be required to drink water to stay alive, ammo will have weight that needs to be managed, healing isn't an instant process and other details that will force players to pay much closer attention to detail in order to stay alive.
By and large, the engine driving the game is pretty much the same. If you played Fallout 3, you're going to be able to jump into Fallout: New Vegas without much issue. VATS has seen some improvements, however, including melee weapons with specialized attacks.
The dialogue system is also getting additional layers of complexity (an Obsidian strong-suit), with a brand-new "Reputation" system that sits alongside the already existing Karma.
More details are being added all the time to this thread on Duck and Cover. Hopefully, the deluge of information means we're going to be seeing much more of Fallout: New Vegas.

I liked Fallout 3 cuz you didnt have to worry abut water and some things you could carry all u want of like ammo which came in handy even though i carridied a lot more guns and ammo i used. i liked the choice of how i like my enclave cooked, well done by a gatling laser or a mini nuke, or turned in too a fine green gravy by a plasma rifle.
