Spend Valentine's Day With G4's Cheaters And Adult Entertainment Expo Marathon

The only holiday G4 hates more than Arbor Day (eff trees!) is Valentine's Day. It's a made-up holiday where wives and girlfriends force their men to buy gifts through a complicated regim of psychological manipulation and incessant whining. Forget that noise, boys; G4 is bringing you a days worth of programming that you want to watch --  we're going totally romance-free, all day!

For 13 hours on February 14th, G4 will present a marathon of bitch slaps, catfights and punches as the Cheaters team uncovers case after case of love gone wrong. Then adult entertainment superstar Sasha Grey teams up with G4’s Blair Herter to host the two-hour special Adult Entertainment Expo 2010, which takes viewers inside the always-shocking Adult Entertainment Expo in Sin City, a/k/a Las Vegas, NV.

G4’s anti-Valentine’s Day extravaganza kicks off at 9 AM ET/PT
with back-to-back episodes of Cheaters
followed by the AEE '10 special at 10 PM ET/PT.

Do not miss a moment; unless you're too busy watching Sleepless in Seattle for the 14th time with your "girlfriend." (sissy.)

Check out our Valentine's site for all the details.

In Korea, video gaming is serious business... well, in South Korea it's serious business. In North Korea, they probably have other things on their minds. In any case, to get inside the Korean gaming scene, X-Play's Morgan Webb traveled across the ocean to investigate. Click the video below, whydon'tcha?

Mass Effect 2

I like Mass Effect 2 so much, I'd marry it if I lived in Vermont, but I really don't like the on-screen text. Don't get me wrong: The writing is top-notch, but I can't frickin' read the stuff half the time because it's too small and the font is hard to read. And I have an HD TV, too. So I have to get up and sit closer to my TV to read the codex and junk. Not cool. (Man, my problems in life are pretty serious!)

My text issues pale in comparison to saps who are playing the game on SD TVs. According to many gamers, it's very, very difficult to read the text in ME2 if your TV is SD instead of HD.

BioWare is not going to fix this problem, posting this on their official forums:

"We understand that on some Standard Definition TVs the smallest text in Mass Effect 2 can be difficult to read. While this was not an intentional result, it was a byproduct of enhancements to the user interface.

After investigating potential solutions, we have determined that while this issue does affect a small portion of SDTV owners, we are unable to resolve it for Mass Effect 2 through a title update. However, we have taken note of this issue and will take it into consideration as we plan future games in the Mass Effect franchise."

While we're talking hard-to-read: How about putting a dark outline on dialog text? That way, if I'm talking to some alien who's standing against a brick wall, I can read the dialog.  Have any of you guys had similar problems? Or is the real issue here the fact that I'm slowly going blind?

I noticed a lot of games for the PS3 and XBox 360 have REALLY small text. Only the Wii maintains a comfortable font to read consistently throughout all its games. It seems Nintendo carefully considers its audience (soccer moms, grandparents, and old farts like me). Microsoft and Sony are only concerned with what looks good; i.e., tiny text looks cooler than large clunky text.

Comic-Con 09 Live Blog: Lost -- The Final Season Begins

Did you guys watch the season premeire of Lost last night? We all did here at G4, and below you'll find some snap reactions to the show. For more in-depth analysis,TheFeed's guide to Lost will be published every Tuesday morning to get you all pumped for the show that night.

Andrew Pfister, Personal Assistant to Jacob: Oh, where to begin. Let’s keep it simple until next week’s pre-episode banter. Here are my big takeaways from last night:

1) The Island’s underwater:  It’s not due to the bomb, because New Otherton was shown, which means it got built on dry land after the 1977 “Incident.” The sinking must have happened after that, and my theory is that it has something to do with the volcano mentioned in season 3’s Ben episode “The Man Behind The Curtain.”

2) Smokey! Good call from reader blindsideofthesun in Monday’s question post, who noted that it should have been obvious that “The Man in Black” was the smoke monster. I don’t know if they’ll explain exactly *how* the monster works, but hopefully we’ll get an MIB origin story. It also proved my assumption correct from way back in Season 3 when we first saw the cabin – the ashes keep Smokey at bay…just as long as he doesn’t knock you out of the ring and impale you on a post.

3) Richard, aka “Ricardus,” was at one point in chains. Which pretty much means he originally came to the Island on the Black Rock.

4) Like Smokey, the Island’s healing power was revealed (but also not fully explained). The significance of the Temple’s pool water turning brown most likely is a result of Jacob’s death, but how does that affect Sayid’s resurrection? (If that really is Sayid now…)

5) Juliet is dead dead, because she got the tender “Death Theme From LOST” piano ballad. But there are now two realities, so who knows what happened to Juliet in the “No Crash” branch? Miles hearing her ghost-say that “it worked” probably means she’s alive and well back in America and never ended up going to the Island in the first place (otherwise, she’d be under water).

6)  Dharma Shark!

Nothing can capture that sense of wonder or those OMG HOLY CRAP moments like in the Pilot when the captain got sucked out of the plane or in Season 2 when we see that there's a guy (our friendly Scot, Desmond) living... UNDERGROUND??

I'm still debating whether the finale will go for the practical or poetic approach, but I don't know if anything can satisfy the Lost fanboy in me at this point. I think the best thing the writers can do at this point (well it's obviously already...

Season Six of Lost, otherwise known as 'the season where they finally answer all of the questions,' begins tonight, and we had a chance to sit with Michael Emerson, who plays Benjamin Linus on the show, to ask him what he thought about bringing the phenomenon to a close. Watch as Michael tells us his theories on the end of the series, what he thinks of Ben as a person and a character, and what he has planned next.

Lost Via DomusSo tonight’s kind of a big deal. The last season of Lost is premiering tonight on ABC (check your local listings), and as is customary this time of year, everybody’s enthusiasm is generating almost equal amounts of disdain from friends sick of hearing about it on the social networks and at the water coolers and the what-have-you. As you may have already tuned in on, Patrick Klepek and I are probably the most vocal fans on TheFeed staff, and we’ve been doing lots of prep work for the finale of THE GREATEST FICTIONAL STORY EVER TOLD TO ANYONE EVER.

(Kidding. We’ll try not to be as obnoxious about it over the next few months.)

The breaks between seasons are long, and the universe is mysterious and complex, which means that we’ve had about 9 months of empty space in our hearts to fill with Lost-related pondering. While Patrick decided to spend his time flying back and forth across the Pacific, I did a full re-watch of the first five seasons to refresh my terrible memory.

But I finished that last week, and there was still time to kill…so I finally got around to something I really should have done a while ago: borrowed Patrick’s copy of Lost: Via Domus, the video game put out by Ubisoft at the beginning of season 4. Via Domus is a story told in parallel to the first three seasons of the show, and follows the adventures of some guy you don’t care about in the slightest. The premise is that you’re a survivor of Oceanic 815 and have been there the entire time, interacting with “the A-Team” while you try to piece together your past. So it’s like Nikki and Paolo, only even less interesting.

Lost Tonight: Has Everything Gone Alternate?...Or Something?

Tonight marks the beginning of the end, the moment that rabid Lost fans have been waiting nearly a year to see. What happens after the bomb? What happens after Jacob’s epic shanking? What is the Man in Black’s agenda? And finally, after living on that surely humid tropical island for possibly hundreds of years, will Richard Alpert ever make the practical switch from those same long collared shirts to t-shirts? (Cotton breathes, my ageless friend.)

Tonight’s episode, while just something meant to whet our appetites, is the moment where this gigantic ship of a show gets steered in the direction towards which it will ultimately dock. There are so many questions, yet we must surely be aware that when all is said and done, there will only be a fraction of answers. Will those answers be satisfying OR a gigantic kick in the nuts? I’m sure every Lost fan has some sort of fear of the latter, however, allow me to convey a bit of optimistic reassurance: Producers, Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof are NOT stupid.

The driving force behind the Lost mythos itself was and always has been the “mysticism” of the island itself. The team are certainly not looking to cheapen it with overblown and cheesy explanations. In fact, in an interview in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, they reference Star Wars: Episode I’s “midi-chlorians” theory as an example of the kind of excessive, unnecessary scientific explanations that they wish to avoid. Based on their other recent interviews, there is also a clear desire to preserve the wonder that made Lost such runaway hit when it debuted in 2004. Therefore, I wouldn't worry too much.

Enough setup! Let’s get down to business for tonight!
