Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer Reveal Hands-On

Important Hollywood actors Ed Harris and Gary Oldman will lend their vocal talents to Activision's Call of Duty: Black Ops, the company announced this morning. Oldman will be revisiting the role of  Russian Red Army squad leader Viktor Reznov from Call of Duty: World at War, and Harris is playing CIA operative Jason Hudson, one of the game's main characters.

Another Hollywood pro onboard for Black Ops: David S. Goyer, writer of The Dark Knight  and Batman Begins, is providing script consultation.

"Their contributions have helped us to push the boundaries of our story telling and character development far beyond anything we have ever attempted before in the franchise," said Treyarch head Mark Lamia in a statement.

Press release hyperbole aside, there is no doubt that Oldman and Harris will give quality voice to their characters -- both have extensive credits of high profile, Oscar-nominated films under their belts -- but I'm curious about this: Do you care? If the main characters in the game were voiced by competent but unknown voice-over artists, would it matter to you? Let us know in our comment section!

I sit and watch my husband Play games all the time and enjoy hearing familiar voices. So far my favorite was picking out Seth Green on Mass Effect which had a good story line too. I am crap at playing games but some of them I really like to watch to see the story unfold. I'll be trying my hand at Dead Rising 2 when that comes out I figure the co-op mode will be therapeutic for my fear of zombies.

Red Dead Redemption DLC Codes Being Auctioned On eBay

Take-Two Interactive announced today that it saw net revenue for Q3 2010 jump to $354.1 million, an increase of $259.2 million over the same period last year. The publisher attributed the bulk of this success to the continued success of Rockstar Games’ wildly popular Wild West title Red Dead Redemption. The title has sold over 6.9 million units since its release back in May.

Yeah I noticed they beat on top and bottom line. I was surprised. That sent their stock soaring about $1.30 or so almost hitting $10 so very nice work for Take Two. They also raised guidance which is gonna be exceptionally important going forward.

Stars War: The Force Unleashed 2

G4's Kevin "Use the Force!" Kelly recently got his hands on Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, and was very impressed with the game's dual lighsabers, specifically, the weapons' ability to slice off enemies' arms and heads.

"I cannot tell you exactly how satisfying this is, but let's just say the word extremely comes close. Doing this leaves an orange, smoldering hole behind, and I know that Lucas was probably suffering from the same misguided thought that Spielberg had when he erased guns from the hands of agents in E.T., but this is precisely what you expect when you swing a coherent beam of light at a thinly-armored Stormtrooper"

Check out the rest of our Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 preview right here.

After reading the review for Force Unleash, the problem was the crappy review copy disc. That game should have been re-reviewed since all those bugs he mentioned were not in the retail version. But that was 2 years ago so...fantasy crushed. But this game looks awesome but since it is multi-platform, I doubt (but hope) it will have Move functionality.

Metroid: Other M is definitely the big game of the week, but seriously people, go buy Valkyria Chronicles 2. The first one was nothing short of excellent, but because too few people bought it (just like Okami, No More Heroes, and other luminary titles), it got moved to the PSP. And guess what? It's still nearly as good as it was on the PS3.

So go buy it now, if you care about supporting JRPG/Strategy games that aren't just the same save the world scenario.

Okamiden

If you played Okami, you no doubt love the PlayStation 2 and Wii title, so you'll want to play Okamiden, the DS sequel. Somehow, the Okami experience has been shrunk down to fit in the little system, but, judging from the demo, it has retained its essence. Jem Alexander gave it a spin, and describes it like this:

"Okamiden is looking like a solid sequel, despite Hideki Kamiya having left Capcom and the Clover studio having been dissolved. Hopefully the rest of the game holds up to the demo I played, and that they've introduced enough new features that it doesn't feel like a retread. Even if they haven't, Okami fans will probably want to play through to see how the story continues. Who knows, if it does well maybe we'll see a sequel on HD consoles."

Harmonix Says You'll Be

Harmonix and MTV Games officially revealed the officially official set list for Rock Band 3. The developers “debunked” the big Gamescom list leak last week, by, well, revealing the entire list in a video response. But today, the list was given a proper announcement, and that means the only thing left to wonder about is which version of RB3 we’re going to buy.

Very excited for HIM being on here and Queen, Joan Jett and Slipknot. Not bad, but definitely knocking off points for not having KoRn and Rob Zombie. Otherwise, nice job on the set list.

Super Scribblenauts

If you were following gaming way back in 2009, you remember the out-of-nowhere buzz that Scribblenauts created. The draw-any-noun concept blew a lot of people away. The sequel, Super Scribblenauts, adds adjectives, but is it enough? Jem Alexander tried the game out at Gamesom, and here's part of his preview:

"After a demonstration during which a rideable, fire-breathing tomato took part in an epic battle against an angry fridge ("a nasty chap!" according to the developer) and a gentlemanly hydra (complete with monocle and top hat) I was back to feeling the same sense of wonder that Scribblenauts inspired at E3 2009. Once again the engine has showed itself to be a great proof of concept, but does it translate into a great game?"

Sometimes, a game comes along with such a unique mechanic and plot, that I feel obligated to call your attention to it, because I hope people play it instead of ignore it. I want this game to be another Scribblenauts and not another Psychonauts.  That game: Ghost Trick: Phantom Dectective. It's not a high-profile title, but it's amazing, and is best explained in video form:

Rock Band 3

I love leaks and rumors. Something about getting information about a game before it's been "officially" released is fun in an "illicit knowledge" kind of way -- even if half the time it turns out to be inaccurate. So here's today's leak/rumor: A video reportedly shot at Gamescom (since pulled off the internet) showed off a bunch of new Rock Band 3 tracks.

I can't vouch for the truthfulness of any of these sources; it's not official, etc. But here's the lineup of might-be-in-the-game songs:

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to get my hands on THQ's newest foray into the wrestling world with WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011, and what I saw was a real eye-opener. Among the things I noticed was that the game is no longer a button-mashing thumbcrusher:

"I noticed right away that Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 is a vast improvement over other iterations of the game in that I was doing a lot less button mashing, and a lot more tactical wrestling. Mindless button pressing has been a main complaint of mine over the years, and seems to be something they've gone to some trouble to fix."

For more insights into the game, and to read what it was like to play it, please check out the full text of the WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011  preview.
