We have so much PAX Prime 2011 coverage you might have missed all the awesome MMOs that were on the show floor. Actually, there's no way you could miss Firefall's booth, it was enormous. So was the booth for Guild Wars 2. Oh, and of course The Secret World and Star Wars: The Old Republic were there too. Since you couldn't make it to Seattle this year, let Casey Schreiner tell you all about what they were showing off in The MMO Report's PAX Prime 2011 special.
While gamers and critics seem to be loving Deus Ex: Human Revolution, everyone agrees that there are some choices you have to make in the beginning of the game that can ruin your experience and force you to restart. The Sess sees this as something of a problem, so he decided to discuss it on this week's Soapbox. Like novels, films, and tv shows, games need to have a solid opening in order to grab your attention and hint at what the rest of your experience will be like. Are developers dropping the ball when it comes to impressing you from the start?
We've got a treat for you, gamers. Below you'll find a live stream of Irrational Games PAX Prime 2011 panel. If you didn't make it to PAX you missed out on one of the most interesting panels you may ever see. Watch as Ken Levine, Adam Sessler and two voice actors from Bioshock: Infinite explain what goes into making one of the most anticipated games of 2012.
The panel stars Ken Levine (Creative Director, Irrational Games), Troy Baker (Voice of Booker DeWitt from BioShock: Infinite), and Courtnee Draper (Voice of Elizabeth) as they discuss the evolution of Elizabeth and Booker as characters, as well as their in-game relationship and its impact on the player's experience.
Host Blair Butler is joined by pop culture writer Jenna Busch for this double-headed Fresh Ink Online chock full of reviews. Comics and graphics that get the once-over include Kick-Ass 2, The Punisher, Northlanders, Loose Ends, Doctor Who, 300, Miss Don’t Touch Me, Nemi II, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and The Ultimates. Dig our new set too! Whoo-hoo!!!
It's almost time for PAX! But that couldn't stop Casey Schreiner from bringing you all the best news the MMO community has to offer. This week he'll discuss Rift's half-birthday, Guild Wars 2's revolutionary crafting system, and read your e-mails outloud in Uncle Casey's Mail Bag. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a plane to catch.
According to a recent article from CNN only 10% of gamers actually finish the single-player campaigns in the games they play. To try and explain the reasons behind this seemingly small number, Sessler decided to get on his Soapbox and show how not only the medium of story telling, but the medium of games themselves have changed over the years.
Are the vast majority of gamers not finishing their games because of the lack of free time? Or is it a result of the multiplayer trend that has almost taken over the industry?
Blair Butler is joined by Attack of the Show Associate Producer Brian Compton for a head to head Top 5 read list bonanza. Included in their picks are The Walking Dead, DMZ, Invincible Iron Man, New Mutants, Daredevil, Criminal, Locke and Key, Northlanders, Captain American and Bunky, and more. But who chose what? And why did Brian terrify Robert Kirkman at Comic-Con so?
What a week. With tons of new MMO news coming from Gamescom the MMO Report staff (aka me) had a lot to dig through this week. First off Casey will tell you about some big changes in the latest build of Guild Wars 2, discuss the planned release window for Funcom's new MMO The Secret World, and of course read through your nonsensical e-mails in Uncle Casey's Mail Bag. Oh, and there's a small surprise waiting for you at the beginning of this week's show. Don't bother to ask, it's more fun if you're in the dark.
There's a new generation of handheld gaming systems these days. Between the Nintendo 3DS offering glasses-free 3D and the PlayStation Vita with its gorgeous OLED screen and dual analog sticks, gaming in your pocket has matured past the point of casual time wasters. But are you buying them? In this week's Soapbox, Adam Sessler discusses the stumbling blocks that handheld gaming may face on the road to success. Did you buy a 3DS? Are you going to pre-order the Vita?
Three weeks worth of comics in one sitting on this week's Fresh Ink Online! What a deal! Blair Butler reviews Severed #1, Secret Six #36, Daredevil #1, Ultimate Fallout #4, Jonah Hex #70, Punisher Max #16, The Red Wing #2, Batman Detective Comics #881, Criminal: the Last of the Innocent, and Hellboy: the Fury #3. Phew! That's a lot!
Hey guys, guess what? We're gonna give you stuff! Well kinda. On this week's MMO Report Casey will show you the new Star Wars: The Old Republic trailer, read from Uncle Casey's Mail Bag, but he'll also tell you how to enter to win a free beta key for Bounty Hounds Online! Go to G4tv.com/BHOnline for the details and we'll start handing out the codes next week. You're welcome!
After a long day at work, everyone has their own way to escape the real world. Some people read, some people watch reality television, but we play video games. On this week's Soapbox, Adam Sessler talks about how fantasy games specifically help him forget about the woes of the real world and immerse himself in another world for a few hours. Who says video games aren't good for your mental health?
Yes, it’s more Comic-Con madness from Blair Butler as she interviews legendary Mighty Thor writer/artist Walt Simonson, rocker turned Orchid creator Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, The Nightwatchman) and Dark Horse PR Director Jeremy Atkins. In fact, Atkins makes delivers some major Dark Horse news regarding Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming series The Strain and print versions of Valve’s web comics of Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Left 4 Dead. This is one Fresh Ink Online you don’t want to miss!
