The future of Infinity Ward might be determined in the next few hours.
I'm told by a source close to the studio that Activision CEO Bobby Kotick will address the development leads at Infinity Ward in a meeting in just a few minutes -- noon, to be exact.
It's unclear what the meeting will be about, but it is likely related to the apparent departure of Infinity Ward studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West, as discovered earlier today.
After Kotick and company's meeting with the leads at Infinity Ward, there will be a second meeting addressing the studio as a whole. The details of that meeting are also unclear.
As soon as I have more details, I'll pass them on.

So I'm gonna call it--my "24"-esque reference last night was on the right track, only instead of being part of the actiony-type stuff, it turned out to be more on the backdoor political intrigue side of things.
(And please, no jokes about "backdoor." There's children present.)

This story keeps getting worse and worse :/

"Everybody in here... you got two choices... you can come with me, and continue to make your "games" for all these roaches... or you can follow them... those insubordanate douches... and get out of here before I show you my little friend!" /the following was typed in my best Tony Montana impersonation.

vbhatt08: Wait, what? You want a man to die over a business decision at a video game company? As for companies caring about money... well, yeah. Welcome to the capitalist United States of America. Please see the immigration officers, who will process you into our system of free enterprise.
In all seriousness, the companies making your video games don't make them to keep you happy. Your happiness is a by-product and an incentive for you to continue helping them make money. Imagining that Activision, EA, Infinity Ward, or any of these other companies aren't in it for the money is ludicrous. Would you go to work and do your job just to make the customers happy and not to get paid and occasionally get a raise? Of course not, and you can't expect these folks to be uninterested in profits.
That said, I can't imagine the business sense involved in sacking Infinity Ward, given MW2's sales as compared to Activision's other 2009 titles. There has to be something going on that we don't know anything about. Bobby Kotick might be a prick, but I give him enough credit to have enough business sense to have landed him in the position he's in. Whatever happened, happened, and I'm very interested in finding out why and how it all came to pass.

I will watch and wait as Activision systematically destroys the CoD franchise. Guitar Hero is already a lost cause.

Suits are a necessary evil in the world of business. As an artist, I would prefer not to have sales peoples' ideas shaping my art, but at the end of the day I'm not going to be the one meeting with customers and quoting prices. If you decide to whore your talents for a steady income, you should let your pride go.
Who would want to employ a self-righteous, proud whore? Not me.

Here's how that meeting will go:

This is poetic justice. I'm going home to play Bad Company 2.

I really hope they don't do anything drastic. I have a firm belief that there is always out there who can do a better job at something. I just hopes this encourages positive change to their games.

Its a sad day when politics take precedent over creativity.

Where is bonerjam when you need him?

Ten to one this has something to do with IW not looking to do another COD (or MW) game next.
