For those Xbox Live Silver members out there looking to get a taste of the latest Live update released earlier this week, you’ll get your chance very soon thanks to some upcoming free access weekends.
Netflix streaming, Facebook, Twitter, online multiplayer, and more will all be free of charge for all regions except Europe from 12:00 PM EST on Nov. 20 to 12:00 PM EST on Nov. 23. European regions will be given access from 17:00 GMT on Nov. 25 to 17:00 GMT Nov. 30.
Of all the Live features though, I have to say one of the biggest reasons you should check it out over the weekend is 1 vs. 100. Seriously, it's surprisingly enjoyable, and the presentation is fantastic. Just give it a shot. That's all I'm saying.
What’s keeping those Xbox Silver members out there from upgrading to Gold?

why would u have a internet connection to your xbox and not have a Gold membership? Get in on the fun already

The cost is why some gamers don't join xbox live. Just think about it, you pay for a console and then you give the company $50 dollars more a year just to play online. You also have to pay another 50 to 60 dollars just to buy the game. Gaming has become very costly and it is because we as gamers just roll over and let it be stuck to us.

14 cents a day is worth everything that you get on this great feature. I would suggest to anyone who has not tried it out to at least give it a shot for a month. Don't like it... No biggie...
You will find that you use it for so many things

PS3 to rule free online. jk. we still have to pay for internets but ther no yearley fee on top of it.
Also WOW i am playing right now i am a level 53 dwarf warrior. but also i think the people who has not gold membership are paying for pron membership and ect. lol

I have a gold membership, I love halo, irs an awesome franchise. But personal preferences aside, I don't think there's a reason to get a gold membership. The only stuff you pay for is stuff you can get for free in other places. Facebook.twitter/last,fm are all free on pc and phones; online gaming free on every other console, as is netflix streaming. The only unique thing LIVE offers is 1 vs 100, which by itself, isn't worth $50 a year.

I have logged over 500 hours playing fallout 3 and still have not unlocked eveything, and anouther 600 on halo 3, same thing, 50 for one years is a great deal. MS is very commited to its community even if you are only a silver member. Costly yes, but I stall cant log over 900 hours in my car with out paying 5000 dollars or more. The cost isn't that great when you compare.

Even though the price is really not that bad. Most people only use it for shooters and if u dont have shooter games there's no reason why u should have a gold membership. Ecspecially if u dont even play shooters, but its good to have once in a while. But Microsoft could offer free weekends more often for the people who have had a account with them since the begining.

i love my xbox and all but i dont like paying for playing people online when i have 2 systems that do it for free

Microsoft has superb services on Xbox Live that no other company can match. Sure, some of you might say I don t need this? Why is that on Xbox Live? And other complaints, but there are other people that are interested in some services that you are not or wise-versa. So no complaints from me, I think Microsoft is on the right track.
FYI,
I m not saying Microsoft is perfect in every way like a fan boy because I do admit the company does have its defects. However, compared to any other competitor I do feel Microsoft being on top on my list.

Probably doing this to compensate for all the subscribers they booted for having a modded box.

Playing games online should be free. Charge for that other stuff if you want but playing games online should be free.
dwigg25
That is the point Microsoft is the only provider who charges for online play. Playstation and Nintendo does not. What is so bad about it if you play the same games on the computer on there live service you don't have to pay a fee. So because 360 came out first, and because it is the popular system, we let them get away with it.

"What s keeping those Xbox Silver members out there from upgrading to Gold?"
Answer: it cost money, and I have PS3s. i can understand paying for online play if all you have is a 360, but for me who have both consoles there are not enough good 360 exclusive titles to warrant paying 8 bucks a month when with most games are multiplat and i can play online for free with the PS3. But we'll see if that changes with NATAL, i believe that could be the key to get people like me to finally start paying for gold, or it could be a wii.

I feel a lot more people pay a crap ton of money for WoW than they do for Xbox and Live gives a lot more. 50 is fine cause that can be made in a half day of work anyways. Don't see the huge issue with paying for a service that gives so much back.
darkuest
I agree with RRODisback i believe it should be free we already paying for like extra maps, guns, add-ons, and all type of stuff.
darkuest
I believe it should be free cause we pay for add-ons and lots of other stuff. So maybe it dont have to be free but free weekends once in a while i believe would help. Probably when huge games come out like COD 2 AND Halo, games like that.
RRODisBack
If they let you play games online for free like they should, then how many people would pay $50 a year for cross game chat and a party system?
bolo73
I can get gold at any time. It boils down to the fact I have one 360 and my son plays it a lot more then I do. So, am I going to get 50 bucks of gaming online? The answer this year has been no. I am busy with work, family, college and playing my PC. I play my 360 like 3 times a month. I mainly play campaigns or co-op with my son.

Complain all you like you cheapos. We all know why your cheap, because your broke paying for WOW or buying the blu-ray player aka POS3. After that, its simple, Playstation Network took a dump the instant MW2 launched, where as Xbox Live chugged along nicely.
You get what you PAY FOR. The only reason people complain is they are cheap and upset that their modded consoled got banned and corrupted so they couldnt continue to steal games, driving up the very costs they complain about. Heck, I just paid for 3 years myself earlier this year and gifted 2 years to each daughter. Money well spent.

ok people.
Comparing xbox live to the complete lack of online "service" that sony provides isn't even like comparing apples to oranges. It's like comparing apples to space ships. I have all three consoles. I almost never play online games on the ps3 because after years of xbl's excellent service the playstion network is like using dial up in the dark stone ice age of internet gaming. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Yes xbl costs money but as has already been mentioned it works out to less than $.14 per day. So actually you get way more than you pay for. If you are any kind of serious gamer and you have an xbox you are doing yourself a huge disservice by not having a gold membership. And if you are too broke to scrape up 14 cents a day you should prolly not be buying video games anyway. And if you have some sort of moral issues about paying for the service all I can say is have fun on psn while gold members move in and out of various games while never loosing their party chat connection.
xbox live gold/ 14cents per day = SOOOO WORTH IT!
