For the past few years, Treyarch and Infinity Ward have developed alternate iterations in Activision's Call of Duty franchise. But as the Los Angeles Times reports, Activision has now tapped a third studio to work on “future versions” of the series.
The new studio has not been identified yet, and it isn’t known what the future holds for the series in terms of expanding beyond its first-person shooter roots, but a source close to Activision told the LA Times that a Call of Duty MMO was still a possibility. Rumors of this drastic shift for the series date back to last year, so this latest news isn’t terribly surprising.
As for uncovering the mystery studio behind these future Call of Duty games, in due time I guess. Of course, Activision did just unveil its new Sledgehammer Games studio, which was supposedly tasked to work on a new game based on an existing Activision property, so that’s interesting.

This is in regards to all of Activision's properties, not just CoD.
They not only beat the horse to death, they continue to beat on it once it is dead until the dull thud loses all satisfaction and amusement. Once they have a well-pummeled horse carcass on their hands they do the only logical thing and sell it off to the glue factory. Then, when no one's looking two years later, they buy a bottle of glue from said factory and attempt to use it to construct a model of a horse. It turns out really badly and its misshapen form is nothing more than an insult to what was once a proud and majestic animal. They then promptly stomp the model to bits and toss it into a DS case for future revisions.

I think we, as consumers, can just stick with the Infinity Ward CoD games. At least those are good (unless you're a PC gamer, then you'll just complain and pirate it.)

im hoping it will stop

if they make a full version of nazi zombies like a full game that would be awesome but i would want treyarxch to make that

I'll stick with Treyarch and Infinity Ward. A CoD MMO would ruin what the series is. An FPS.

I really like MW2 but i don't really want to buy another call of duty game next year. It has been a new COD for the past 3 years for me and i will just skip it next year and get the one that's coming out in 2011.

I think it's safe to say that Activision has become the new EA. At least EA is now trying its luck with new IPs, Activision is turning each of its franchises into a Madden series.

as long as no more world war 2 is produced I am fine. IW has proven themselves more capable of creating a good game than treyarch... Simply boot treyarch and bring in this new developer.

And those people though MS was milking Halo by making ONE developer for the future of Halo (343 Industries). A 7th CoD already confirmed, utterings of a third Modern Warfare, and an MMO? Minimum?!? Wow. That is NINE games... Halo: Reach will only be the sixth. *sigh* I agree with the [eerily] poetic BeardedMenace. And BohemianHero.

@BohemianHero , yeah and look at what happened. If anything, the only thing they've succeded in is reinforcing Activisions stance.

IMO the only good Call of Duty game developed by Treyarch was World at War. I'm interested to see what this new developer can bring to the table, but I prefer the golden touch of Infinite Ward.

COD + Infinity Ward + Blizzard MMO = GOTY

Would be interesting if they make a good fpsmmo. To be honest I don't know why it hasn't been done. Doesn't seem like it would be that hard.

I don't think i'd like cod as an mmo. However, Seeing as how fun borderlands is, gearbox should probably think about turning that into an mmo. It's already an rpg, it's already got that kind of mmo feel with it's co-op, so just keep the gameplay the same and make it an mmo. I think call of duty shouldn't stray too far away from what it already is, let the newer franchises take on newer ideas so we can get more fresh content.
