“Reports that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been banned in Russia are erroneous. Activision only released a PC version of the game in Russia,” Activision said in a statement.

Turns out that Activision simply blocked the scene from the game via a patch, “after seeking the advice of local counsel.” See, Russia doesn’t have an official ratings board, which means Activision voluntarily decided to make the changes. As for the game banning talk, I guess Activision has a point; it’s kind of hard to ban a version of a game that wasn’t even released in that region.
