Nintendo Talks Wii Zelda, The Existence Of Wii HD And Modern Warfare 2

Soon, Nintendo will drop its biggest game of the year, New Super Mario Bros. Wii. It's being released in the days after Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 comes out, widely expected to be one of, if not the, biggest releases of the year (Activision's CEO said it could be the most impressive launch in any entertainment medium -- ever). Nintendo disputed that point in little bit a Gametrailers TV interview with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.

Files-Aime believes once the holiday dust has settled, New Super Mario Bros. Wii will outsell Modern Warfare 2, if you look at a single platform's sales (i.e. Modern Warfare 2's sales on Xbox 360).

"I'll take that bet," he joked.

In the same interview, Fils-Aime also addressed other rumors regarding Nintendo. It's been long rumored Nintendo will release an updated version of the Wii with support for high-definition visuals. Despite the head of Nintendo's R&D division recently telling investors that "moving to HD appears to me a natural flow," Fils-Aime outright denied the existence of the theorized "Wii HD."

"I don't know how forcefully we can say there is no Wii HD," said Fils-Aime.

Lastly, the Nintendo head honcho briefly discussed the next Zelda game. Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed the game's existence at E3 this year, but Fils-Aime wasn't willing to commit to a 2010 release date for Link's next adventure, but he didn't rule it out, either.

“We haven’t committed to Zelda for 2010," he said. "That’s what he [Miyamoto] said. So we’ll see how that continues to develop.”

Does he mean Super Mario Brothers will outsell the Wii version of MW2? If so, then, yeah, maybe, but I sincerely hope he hasn't deeply embarrassed himself by saying it will outsell MW2 entirely...

At first, I thought to myself there's no way that The New Super Mario Bros. would ever outsell MW2 for the 360, but then I started thinking, maybe it will. All those families with Wii's will mos def buy games for it in the upcoming holiday season. So who knows...

i think he means that Mario will outsell MW2 when you only take MW2's numbers on 1 console. so, MW2 360 vs. Mario Wii. I guess that could be close, but no...my money would be on MW2.

Even though I don't like first person shooters and have never played any of the MW games, I will have to agree that NSMBW will not outsell the former. I'm almost positive of this. Either way, Mario FTW!

COD: MW1 sold a tad over 13 million copies across all platforms. I doubt Mario will top that. It's shallow victory to exclude two platforms and then brag about outselling COD:MW2. Although if Nintendo continues to trickle out software, that leaves the Wii owners with nothing else to buy. Crazy like a fox?

Who cares what Nintendo says anymore, the hype machine isn't fooling gamers. MW2 will be the biggest selling game this year, period. Once the Wii starts take a nosedive i'm sure Nintendo will release a new system in 2011. The is already slowing and will be down this Christmas compared to last year's. The end is coming for the Wii....soon.

I would not put it beyond Nintendo to say that New super mario bros will outsell Mordern warfare 2. Before you Cod fanboys explode let me explain, who would have thought 3 years ago when these systems were just launching that today nintendo would be ahead especially after being the underdog for almost the entire GCN era. One word of wisdom i don't know what they're paying Miyamoto but the man works magic, further more Fils-Aime would not have said that lightly. Trust me if it's one thing that everybody's favorite japanesse company can do it's miracles.

Seriously? Ok, MW2 looks to be a fantastic shooter! No doubt.. But it's a shooter... Shooters start off on fire then quickly sales drop.. Once again a shooter... All shooters age horribly.. Some less than others but still they age quickly.. Take Halo for instance.. Horrible shooter now.. Seriously... Don't believe then compare it to say MW1.. Halo just seems tacky in comparison... Honestly, Super Mario Bros doesn't have that effect... Sure graphics looks somewhat funny but still real fun.. Remember, this is a game that came out over 20 yrs ago.. 10 yrs from now nobody will even want to buy MW2.. 10 yrs from now there will be plenty of sales still with New Super Mario Bros.. It's just a pattern with Nintendo.. It's not at all as far fetched as most would think... I'm getting both games! More excited for New Super Mario Bros wii though.. I have waited for a game like this for well almost 20 yrs. lol..

Mario was created what 20 yrs ago? And Soap MacTavish and the other MW chars were created in......2007.

You honestly think that a game whose momentum started in 07 would out sell a game whose momentum started 2 decades ago and is still growing strong? You know how idiotic that sounds..?

Yes MW 2 will outsell Mario the 1st week probably, but that's it :D

OK I'll say it. Most of the people who are buying CODMW2 could care less about Super Mario Brothers. I know I don't care. Super Mario Brothers could very well outsell MW2, no doubt. Will that make me turn on my Wii for the first time in 2 years? No. It isn't about the graphics it's just that I'm so excited for MW2. I really don't care for Mario.
