This week's Soapbox gets a little serious. First, if you want to know what Adam is talking about, search YouTube for "Call of Duty Grenade Spamming" to find the original viral video that Adam will be talking about this week.

Once you've seen it, you'll understand where The Sess is coming from in this episode of Sessler's Soapbox. Adam is not a fan of the large amount of hate speech that is thrown about on Xbox Live and the PSN during multiplayer matches, and from his perspective, that video has given those activities a somewhat passive approval from Infinity Ward. This video couldn't have come at a worse time, considering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is coming out in less than two weeks. Do you agree with Adam on this subject? Or do you believe the developer has no responsibility towards what gamers do while playing their game? And please, keep the discussions civil.

As a gay gamer, I really do feel pleased that Sessler has adressed this issue, as I did take offence. Thank you

Couldnt agree more Adam.. There are things you do and dont say.. Just keep it civil and be smart and acronyms like that have no place in todays society in games or not.

another "sensitive" pc, person who thinks they are well cultured because they don't use a certain word, childish really it's not the word that is offensive it is what some one means by it, the word in no way means a homosexual true it has come to mean that to certain people but now most of the time it is used as just a simple jab like "moron" or "idiot" if you take all of these words to their utmost extremeness then you have effectively become the problem

and also sometimes this person tends to misuse words, he is turgid almost to the point that it is embarrassing and laughable

I think Sessler has a lot of points here. It's almost hypocrisy to tell gamers this language will get you banned from online but here we are throwing it in your face.

One thing I disagree with strongly in the soapbox is the notion that the N word is on par with the F word used in the clip. unless gay people were at one time slaves to another part of society or not given a chance at education and voting then that argument is crap. Hell, I don't even know how you compare a lifestyle word with a racist word but that's just me. FYI I've got a very cool gay brother, so don't assume I'm being harsh.

Playing with loudmouth ignorant people can ruin what would be a really fun game. It's kinda like there being a fun switch, but once a idiot turns it off, it usually stays off for a while.

Cool story bro. While you're over here in Happy Bullshark land Adam I'm going to be in the real world where I don't have to censor myself because of someone's feelings. Boo hoo.

Nice call Sessler, there's an entire portion of society nowadays that does nothing more than spew hate. Any endorsement of that, even a passive one, is completely unacceptable. It could have been

    Fight
    Ridiculously
    Asinine
    Grenade
    Spamming

    See? nowhere near as offensive.

I DO NOT CONDONE the use racial or any hateful slurs...

As a minority I know that the only way to cope with being discriminated against is to rise above in the face of the adversity/hatred and be the better person. To do that people need to stop attributing so much attention and feeding the fires of hatred towards groups of people.

as an opinion, as a minority, I would like to say that I think the issue is partly that the words, N word, and F word and any other number or hateful words have far too much 'power' in the world. I think that the words are given attention like this (negative or else wise) and that adds to how much affect they have on society.

One of the main contributors in my opinion is that people are too afraid to talk to each other about things that make them unique and that the purple elephants are always in the room. I say embrace your differences and dont let anyone tell you that being different is bad.

Honestly I didn't catch the acronym until I read the comments on the video, that's not an excuse just me stating something. Anyways I believe the use of this word will not fluctuate for years to come but I try to avoid saying it, because I have homosexual, and bisexual friends so I have stopped. It is a shame that Infinity Ward put something like this out and I think it was an immature thing to do; I've always expected better from a company such as Infinity Ward. I'm still going to play the game but I agree that does kill some of my joy. I loved your reaction, because you did just that, you reacted. I was really enjoying the short video too but it is a shame.

I agree with you on this Adam. Your argument is well thought out and supported. Our generation is strange in that there are so many conflicting messages we are bombarded with. Popular culture pushes the idea of equality but then undermines it with so many messages to the contrary. We are told that we have the right to be anything we want yet there are still so many laws limiting this freedom. If we are to move foward we as a society need to address some of our insecurities and open up meaningful dialogues about what it means to be part of a community with varied beliefs, lifestyles etc... In this time with so many problems in our country today we need to come together, it is unfortunate that infintiy ward decided that this was the best way to market their product. To me their image has been tarnished. If they had a direct hand in doing this ad or let a marketing firm do it they should know better. I supported them in many arguments about the leaked footage with the airport level, but this there is no defending. Unfortunatley this type of problem will always be prevelant and is something that we will have to continue dealing with. In all honesty the best thing to is to have those voices with reason also open up and say something. For too long only the people with extreme points of view and negative things say seem to speak. Adam I salute you. You discuss relevant and mature topics on this show and hope you continue doing so. At least your fans have something to think about and hopefully it can change some of their points of view on the subject.

Yep. We're just a bunch of overly pc sensitive liberal arts majors. What if they had put:
    Gamers
    Opposing
    Obligatory
    Killing
Still being too sensitive? Stil "boo-hoo?"
Better idea. Educate yourself and realize that bigotry, no matter who is the target, is WRONG. Just like a certain N* bomb that seems to get dropped every few seconds over XBox Live, there is a whole history of hatred and violence behind it. Gay, straight, male, female, black, white, and all of us in between need to treat each other with more understand and respect. Maybe these bigots need to put down the controller, look at themselves, and examine the true root of their anger.

i completely agree with you here sessler hate speech over xbl is gotten out of control i mean i do say it sometimes but when people send me a message saying something that makes no sense and complaining to me that im somehow cheating using these words its offensive and i do talk back defending myself but it makes no sense remember its a game theyre are always people who are worse and who are better its nothing to get so angry to have to send me a dumb message to me

Demeaning anyone is never acceptable. No matter their race, sex, or gender attraction is. I personally don't think homosexual relations are right, I think they go against nature. However, that doesn't mean that I'm going to marginalize anyone who doesn't share my beliefs. We live in a nation were we are all supposed to be treated equal and we need to learn to respect our differences. I'm a straight guy and I have a couple of gay friends who are great guys and with whom I enjoy hanging out with. We are all different and respecting that will help this nation move forward.

I guess we'll soon be living in a politically correct world.

half the people here would say hateful things behind closed doors but when we're all talking about it everyone starts pointing fingers at other people.

I'm not saying what IW did was cool, it was very immature.

I for one don't want to live in a society where we ignore our differences and pretend like we aren't inherently prejudice against one thing or another
