There's only so much you can tell from a trailer, but look at the just-released Prince of Persia: Sands of Time movie trailer.
...and here are my down-and-dirty first impressions:
The Good:
- The cast: Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton and Ben Kingsley are all excellent actors with large-enough movie star personas to pull off a flick of this scale.
- The Effects: I'm bored with Hollywood effects -- they're way too perfect to be interesting -- but these look flawless.
- The Director: Mike Newell is a pro who has been directing since before you were born -- seriously, he has credits that go back to 1964. He'll do a solid job.
The Bad:
- Video game movies always suck.
- Video game movies always suck.
- Video game movies always suck.
What do you think? Is Prince of Persia going to buck the trend for video game movies and actually prove watchable and worthwhile?

I don't think it will suck to the point of walking out of the theater, but it might be good enough to watch before it hits the vid store or netflix

It looks pretty good, at least better than any other videogame movie but I'm not sure I would go to the theater to see it.

This is a Disney-Bruckheimer production cut in the mold of Pirates of the Caribbean. It has a production budget that exceeds $150 million. It will be a great summer popcorn flick and the first legitimately good video game movie. Should be a blockbuster hit as well.

You know what really sucks?
Even if this movie is awesome, like District 9 awesome, people will still be saying that video game movies always suck.
It's a timeless question really: "How many exceptions does it take to disprove the rule?"

I can't tell, because I never played the game but it did look like a good game, I go see it, plus Pirates of the Caribbean was pretty good too. They just better not have any disney people, like Miley Crys.

it looks like it will be great like transformers great, which to anyone that really cares about films, knows that it isnt great. For all the stepping forward in video games to movies its trying to do, its taking a step backwards by following in the steps of some of the most pointless yet extravagant movies made recently. I feel like the movie industry these days thinks we are all little babies that will be entertained by shaking keys in our face...ooooo its loud and shiny! sign me up! Actually...dont sign me up yet, im just not sold yet. Call me crazy but when a movies strongest selling point is "hey look, its not a low budget movie this time with Uwe Boll" then I feel like its still missing the point. At best I hope this will make it possible to make better video game adaptations into movies as there are plenty of great games that i feel like I would enjoy on the big screen. And there is no way this movie will ever even be in the same realm as district 9 as the idea of this just sends me into a fit of uncontrollable laughing.

THIS IS A MAJOR BLOCKBUSTER BUDGET TYPE MOVIE. that disney money is nothin to mess around with.

I really hope this goes well so that directors will want to want to film a (and these are only suggestions) Metal Gear Solid, Jak and Daxter, or maybe even God of War movie.

I am hoping that the curse of awful video game movies is broken with this movie...it looks promising. I have high hope for this movie and also the Mass Effect, Bioshock, Gears of War, and Dead Space movies.

People do not expect much of videogame movies( I have to say, myself included), but with the budget, actors and director I have to say this has all the potential to become an exception to the rule. If it is, then we can hope seeing MGS, God of War and other mayor titles go to the big screen.

I'm trying to ignore the video game geek in my head that fears this movie will. But hey good actors/actresses, Director/writer/producers, it has potential;dont they all(except Blood Rayne oh my God) but I have faith

I'm a little skeptical only because it's from Disney, and might be a bit toned down for younger viewers. But the trailer looked great, and I'm pulling for this to have success.
