Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

Everyone at G4 is swamped with video games to play through as we march towards the end of the year. It's a good problem to have, which should make for some interesting discussion on this week's edition of Feedback. Despite the deluge of games, however, we still want to hear from you guys. What do you want Adam Sessler and the rest of the Feedback crew to discuss this week?

I'd love to hear about Halo Waypoint and what it might potentially brings to gaming.

So much MW2 coverage it seems like some games are being forgotten about.... maybe some Froza 3 discussion to.

    :)

Where do you see RPG's going from here? When it comes to the number of them developed they have dwindled in number from the PS1 which had a plethora of them on down to what we see today. Are we moving to more hybrid RPG's with a mixture of different gaming genres ala Borderlands/Fallout 3?

Why are there so many games with online multiplayer, but no local multiplayer?

(And now my rant on the issue...)
Last generation, "multiplayer" was mainly viewed as sitting in the same room and playing a game split screen with a friend. Then, once online multiplayer was introduced, it started to take over. This generation, besides games like Rock Band or Halo, local multiplayer has basically disappeared and been replaced with online multiplayer only.

    Why?

Why can't it be both? Or a combination of local and online, like RB/L4D/Halo does? Those games ARE great and all, but they get old pretty fast because we've played them so much. Seriously, what's the deal with the complete lack of local multiplayer for almost any game out there today?

I miss the days where you can chill with a friend in the same room and play something on the same TV. Like split screen racers, most shooters, etc. I miss back when I could play a game with my friends on the same TV, rather than HAVE to play it online in order to play multiplayer. When me and my friends get together we never have any idea what to play because everything is either online only multiplayer (aka multiplayer online, but not split screen) or simply single player.

Don't get me wrong, I love online gaming. A lot. It's just, what ever happened to ANY form of local multiplayer?

With the transfer over to complete digital distribution looming over us within the next few years, it seems as though we are coming to a point where video game consoles are starting to lose the qualities that made them an independent form of media (and I'm not saying this is a bad thing). If consoles were to completely go diskless then do you see a future for consoles in the next 10 to 20 years, or could they transition back into PCs, but with independent operating systems? Could we see companies like Sony and Nintendo making PCs with their own operating systems, opposed to the traditional new video game console.

Wii sales have slumped. What could Nintendo do to revitalize your interest in the Wii? Or are they already too far gone?

Do you remember when Infamous and Prototype came out like in the same week and everyone was comparing the two open world games, trying to probe their strengths and weaknesses. Well last week the same thing happened with Borderlands and Torchlight, except that nobody seemed to notice. What's your take on these two games and which one is better?

This week Patrick Klepek brought an excellent point on the differences between hard and difficult games. My question is if you think game developers should focus more on providing broader and more dynamic difficulty settings? Seasoned gamers want to be challenged, but more casual players want to finish games, have fun and not get over stressed in the process.

Although normally when looking at a game, if it tends to have bugs it is considered a major downfall. However with more and more games coming out that are at such a large scale of content, should we as a gaming community be more lenient on some bugs in larger games?

What classic Sega games would you like to see remade?

Jet Set Radio is the main reason I bought a Xbox 1, and I'll be damned if it doesn't get another game.

What genre of game do you foresee 2010 being dominated by? Is it going to be another year of FPS, or do you foresee another genre getting some loving this coming year like RPG's or turn based strategy games? Or is the industry going to further embrace the idea of hybrid genres like Borderlands or Alpha Protocol are trying to do with the FPS and RPG genres?

I know about a month ago on the feed it said Sony may be planning on bringing all the past PS libraries to the PSN, has there been anything additional information released on that?

do you think it would be a wise decision for Sony to do such a thing? what are your personal feelings on the rumor?

i don't work for Numark, and i've never dj'd a day in my life so my apologies to sessler and company (particularly sessler) for constantly harrassing you on this topic, but i'm compelled to ask (again): where do you guys weigh in on Scratch: The Ultimate DJ? is it going to reguvenate our love for plastic instruments? is it a game dj hero should fear? is the fad too far gone or is the game too much of a nitch genre? is this game even on your radars going into 2010?

i keep inquring about it in part because i think the turntable is unique from a gamer's perspective and it allows for some true freestyle in the realm of music-related games. but, i mostly nag you guys about it because it truely bothered me as a gamer how activision was able to silence any competition it had for dj hero - via the U.S. court systems - until past the holiday season, giving it a free ride to do poorly in sales. more selections breeds competition which is what gamers should want in order to get the best product possible, and i hate to see the legal ugliness creep into my ageless joy of gaming.

if you guys review Scratch and think its a dud, so be it as long as it got a chance to be rated on its merits, and not merely lost in the complexities of litigation.

With the shock and awe that arose to the leaked footage of Modern Warfare 2's Terrorist gameplay mode, I'm left wondering about the direction war games are taking. It seems that the consensus on Infinity Ward's reasoning for including Terrorist Mode was to incite and spark that part of our conscience that makes you really care about the outcome of the culture and civilization that the majority of society is accustomed to.

If that is the case, despite the shocking news of Terrorist Mode, why is it that something of this nature can be almost readily accepted while a game like Six Days in Fallujah is still left out in the cold? What really makes Six Days in Fallujah that much more controversial a topic than Terrorist Mode in Modern Warfare 2?

Since most of you are reviewers (or at least gamers), name five (or more) key elements that must be in a current generation 60$ game in order to get your approval ( I said the word "approval" because i know you guys hate number based scores)

As video games are progressing forward and becoming more and more a storytelling environment, and society begins to accept video games as more than mindless entertainment, do you believe that games like Assassin's Creed II, and Modern warfare 2 will become something that non-gamers could simply watch and enjoy, without having to pickup a controller.
