It seems that quite a number of Xbox 360 users over the past week or so have been booting up their console only to find that their Xbox Live accounts have been ban-hammered by Microsoft. Turns out the house that Gates built has finally decided to take its boot to piracy’s neck in the form of mass bannings. As a spokesperson explained to IGN:
"We have taken action against a small percentage of consoles that have been modified to play pirated game discs. In line with our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox Live community, we are suspending these modded consoles from Xbox Live."
So if you’re enjoying your illegal games on your modded 360, play on at your peril I guess. And if you are among those modders who have had their Xbox Live accounts banned, I’m sure you’ve learned your lesson and will never mod a console or steal a game ever again. Mission accomplished.
Anyone out there have their accounts banned recently? I'm not looking to round people up. I'm just curious to see how widespread the bans have been so far.

LOL,
Not me cause i stay true to the game. I'm glad because most of them play GOW2. Crime does not pay, thank you MS for great Xbox Live service for only a little over $4 per month.

Probably the only good and progressive act that MS has ever committed.

I agree that it is about time that these people get banned...
But really...maybe Microsoft, Playstation and all them game dev's need to not be charging 60 bucks for some of the games that have little to no replay value.

@EKG, you act like the boys at activision and microsoft are starving on the streets. and before you get so moral, ask yourself how much pirated music youve downloaded.

Good, these jerks cause too much trouble for the honest.
BTW its nice to see the haters made the first post. If they had as much fun with their console as they claim, they would spend more time playing it rather than crapping on the thread. It's a GAME CONSOLE people! Have fun with what you have. All this whining is what is keeping this hobby in the toy category.

microsoft made me change my gamer tag but i dont have a modded box i guess they are cracking down on everything,

What do those retards expect? They should know if your 360 is modded and you're playing on LIVE, it can be monitored.

Are these people banned just from live or can they not use their system. If it's just a ban from live... it's stupid. They're just losing money they could have made on Live while the pirates are just playing offline...

really? u guys need to chill out. Msft wont ban someone if pour water into their 360 but they will if ure smart enough to mod ur 360... wats the point they lose money both ways: 1) if my 360 doesnt work, i dont buy the games... 2) if my 360 is modded i dont buy the games!!!! its pointless no one tries to tell me how to use my stove at home, what i can cook on it or what i cant. Hackers/Modders dont care if their account is banned or not, a friend of mine got his banned and now he's looking for another 360 to modd and get back on! its a never ending cycle... i kno for sure the amount of money he saved making his own discs he cud buy 10 elites!! lets face it... it costs him $40 for a pack of 30 blanks... from which he burns 30 games which would be..... $1200 @ a meagre $40 a game... who in the world wouldnt take that deal?!?! ok its "illegal" but so is driving above the speed limit.... pssshh get with it ppl.

Well, seeing how most modders are usually dicks when they play on XBL, I'm happy for the ban. Although I think it is retarded that they only ban them from XBL seeing how they are jacking games, thus breaking laws... I would think Microsoft would push a Firmware Update onto the box to completely set it to not play anything (pirated or not). I personally don't see the point in modding or pirating games because you will almost always get caught, and when you do you're pretty much SOL. Well, that's my two sense on it anyways.

Right, yeah, good point. The reason they're doing this is definitely so people can buy more consoles because they're a greedy corporate monster who wants nothing more than to please illogical people such as yourself. And to suggest that the install base is 20% of what they've said it is is absolutley insane. No one wants to play with a cheater, and developers want to get paid for their games. There's nothing wrong with banning modded consoles. In fact, I think everyone should do it. If you're cheating in a competition online, then you don't deserve to be playing online.

suckers!!!! They say a small percentage... but still a large group, keep this and they will loose to Sony by the end of next year.

as of right now my friend that has a modded console with burnt games is still online... he has a pretty good modder so it will be interesting to see if he gets caught or not... Uses some stealth patch on all games, crazy stuff. For me, I just buy my games because I support MS...
