Quantic Dream co-CEO and Heavy Rain writer/director David Cage has gone back and forth on releasing a playable demo for his upcoming epic. In our interview with Cage from last week, however, the developer confirmed there will be a playable demo for Heavy Rain. At the moment, Cage and his team are figuring out what will be the most appropriate scene to represent the game.
"We are currently working on a demo, which is a real challenge," said Cage. "Finding one scene that can convey what we are trying to achieve with Heavy Rain is something really difficult. If we show an action scene, some players will think that this is what Heavy Rain is all about, and it is the same thing if we show an exploration scene. The problem is that each scene of the game offers contextual game play, which is something very difficult to explain and convey in a single demo. Demos are often a double-edge thing: if you don’t release one, players may think that you have something to hide."
Cage is obviously thinking long and hard about how he chooses to represent Heavy Rain's vertical slice, acutely aware of the consequences of releasing a demo that backfires. Despite these fears, Cage reiterated the importance of having a demo for gamers unaware of his work.
"We also know many good games that ended up not being massive hits because the demo could not convey the quality of the game behind it," he said. "Because Heavy Rain is a new concept and since many gamers will want to check what it is before buying it, we will be releasing a demo. We just need to find the best scene for it."

YES! I'm so glad. The first time I saw anything about this game I thought it looked really cool but I also thought I would need a demo to see if it would be a game I could get into.

I'm sold on that one either way, it looks pretty cool and interesting to see the game from a different character view, the FBI dude probably will be pretty cool and the old detective as wel, I still don't know much about the other two but still... more gameplay though.

Since this is such a story-heavy game, I'm hoping they'll release a demo of a scene that's already been announced like Mad Jack or Blue Lagoon. I just don't want too much of the story to be exposed and take away from the suspense and overall experience of the game.

I'd like to 2 different demos if Quantic can do it.
