Batman: Arkham Asylum delayed

The newest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine hints that Rocksteady Games is working on (or planning to work on, or would like to work on) a sequel to awesome super-hero action game Batman: Arkham Asylum.

"I’m not really allowed to comment on that, but there are definitely lots of exciting stories to tell in Batman’s world," Sefton Hill, co-founder of Rocksteady Studios, said. "I can say that we’re really privileged to work on it, and excited about future possibilities."

Okay, that's hardly a scream of "We're totally working on Arkham Asylum 2!" but it's encouraging nonetheless. That game is so solid, I want Rocksteady to make every Batman game from now until the end of time.

What would you like to see in a follow-up to Arkham? Personally, I want an open-world Gotham City that's the same size as Liberty City in GTA 4, with the Batmobile and The Batwing as major modes of transportation. Either that, or a cell-shaded throwback to 1960s Batman. Where would you like to see the next Batman? A super-heroic RPG, maybe? How about Batman and Robin cart racing? Batman Babies (for the Wii, of course)? Give your own ideas in the comment section.

I'm with you on the open world. Batman gliding in an open area, driving the Batmobile and Batwing. With this they can really instill The Dark Knight fear factor. Plus, I REALLY want to reenact the Dark Knight Hong Kong jump :) The controls were perfect. Just bring on the next AAA Batman game already Rocksteady!

I worry about the idea of making it open world. I'd imagine it going down the road of SpiderMan or Incredible hulk...plus, I really don't think the graphics would stand up in an open world game. What I'd like to see? Kiya Asamiya's "Child of Dreams" storyline brough to life in videogame form. You've got villians in that we didnt see in Arkham Asylum, and it takes place in Japan!

i think he should also have different outfits and the enviroment should change like at one time its raining ,or its really sunny and that should like effect his combos and counters.

I love the idea of cell shaded 60's era stylized Batman game. Although I'm sure the majority of Bat-fans wouldnt be into it. However I dont think they should utilize the cell shade style for an open world GTA style sandbox (which I would rather see for the next game). Cell shade, superheros and open world has been done enough (Crackdown, inFamous, even Ultimate Spiderman from a few years back). Speaking of Ultimate Spider-man, that game would have been better, imo, if the developers opted to go with classic Spidey art style, with classic versions of character design, rather than the Ultimate stlye. Short list of artists to portray the classic style (both Batman or Spider-man) - Marcos Martin, he just plain gets it. 'nuff said.

Its going to be hard to top of Arkham Asylum's atmosphere and the level of detail in every level. Going open world would be cool, but the world would not have the same level of detail. Also can the Unreal Engine handle an open world game?. I don't think it can be called ''Arkham Asylum 2'' he already left the asylum and everybody wants something different. If its open world or if is just level, it could be called ''Batman: Gotham's Shadow'' or something better this one sounds like ''Logan's Shadow'' or they can make ''Batman and Robin cart racing'' like Stephen said, but that would be for the Wii though. Anyway lets just hope Rocksteady is able to pull off another Awesome Batman game again, that would make us all every happy gamers.

I agree, throw in some classic costumes. I'd also like to see you be able to play as some other characters. Fighting as the Joker was fantastic!

If they had DLC add ons (or unlockable parts of the game ala RE4 Ada missions) that were Nightwing/Robin/Catwoman, or villain side stories, that would be another great new level as well.

I like the idea of an open world Gotham City. Have the Batmobile, Batwing, Batcycle & Batboat for transport. It could be a prequel to Arkham Asylum when Oracle is still Batgirl & Robin is still around. Heck, even have Nightwing show up. It has to have a lot of villains. I'd like to see Firefly, Catwoman, Two-Face, Riddler, Man-Bat, Ra's Al Ghul, Scarecrow, Ventriloquiest & Scareface, Penguin, Mr. Freeze and more.

If not, then id like to see Rocksteady make a DC Comics game ala Marvel Ultimate Allaince & have tons of heroes and villains to choose from. That would be epic.

Rocksteady has my trust in making the best sequel possible. I am sure the direction they take, whether open world or not, will be in the best interests of the story they are trying to tell. They have me day one no matter what, especially if they convince Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill to do it again.

I loved Arkham Asylum, and the idea of an open world GTA is great. I agree that it may be hard to keep up the graphically details and quality. No matter, I would love to see that kind of sequel. What if you could do some sort of prequel where it shows how Bats got all those villains into Arkham in the first place.

Great game Rocksteady, take your time to make a worthy sequel!

I vote to keep the same formula as Arkham Asylum. Keep it in a tight specific location. Maybe Two Face takes over city hall and the whole story takes place within a couple of blocks. Or the Riddler takes over a Coney Island type place. Plus, I want to see characters that didn't appear in part one but that were hinted on. Clayface, Mr. Freeze and Black Mask. And have cameos from Nightwing and Blue Beetle.

I think it would be cool if they did a open world like GTA 4 and have moral choices like be the good or bad guy. Or like an assassins creed type of thing where you can chase criminals from rooftop to rooftop.

I don't know about having an open world. One of the reasons Arkam Asylum worked so well was specifically because of the sense of having an open playground, but ultimately being tightly restricted. I'm not versed enough in the Batman fiction to know where that would work again, but an open-world Gotham City just sounds like a recipe for watering down some of Arkham Asylum's biggest strengths.

I once heard of what the sequel should be, continuing from the end of Arkham Asylum, Two-Face being the villain and he's taken over a few dozen blocks of Gotham that surround the bank he's taken over also. It would be cool to go through buildings full of bad guys, meet up and battle the likes of the penguin and other minor villains. Just no hand to hand with villains that never fight Batman that way. Anyways, can't wait for more news on this.

They can do whatever they want with the franchise as far as I am concerned... as long as it doesn't involve suit nipples. Arkham Asylum was phenomenal, and I really hope they get to do a sequel. I am ready to preorder it today.

The idea of a open world would be awesome but then it would have to be done right... Maybe a story like War Games or Catacylsm would be suited for the sequel... Bring in multiple characters like nightwing, robin, catwoman, etc. banding together to prevent the overall destruction of Gotham City. Definitely would love to see nightwing in a batman game... got to show that you can't be the boy wonder forever!!!

I think if they will make another game, then it will be on next gen consoles.

Unreal Engine 3 is great, but not for the open world and i m sure they won't use RAGE engine to make Gotham City, but probably it will be in Gotham City

Hmmm yeah open world would seem like the next step for a game like that,it would be awesome as well.If they did go that route how much story wouild they unintentionally sacrifice maybe none, maybe a lot. They might need too break the game down again and build it back up, which might be a bad thing, or not. I would like to see an open world Batman, but not if it sacrifices key things that made the game great and acclaimed critically. Plus would it technically be called Arkham Asylum if it's open world?
