Exclusive Mass Effect 2 Combat Footage - Assault Rifles, Shotguns, Explosions, Oh My!

BioWare is releasing Dragon Age: Origins next week for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, but they are also readying another epic RPG experience for release on January 26, 2010. I am talking, of course, about Mass Effect 2, the follow-up to the hugely popular RPG released almost two years ago.

While you (and we) wait for more Mass Effect 2 coverage... BioWare is currently focusing on Dragon Age: Origins, after all... hold yourself over with some beautiful exclusive combat footage featuring Shepard mowing down enemy Husks, Scions, and Abominations.

Also, catch a glimpse of what looks like achievement/medal tracking near the end of the video. I'm so glad Gears of War 2 started that trend!

What was your favorite part or change? I love the new minimal design of this HUD, but it's unclear if it will represent the display of the final game.

I have to say I am not liking this gameplay as much as ME1 because this feels wayyy too much like gears now. IDK I loved ME1 and I hope the sequel lives up to its opening. I love the story and will defiantly play the game no matter what. Just slightly bummed that they went down this path.

can't wait for the release...been playing MASS EFFECT since the original release date. The graf look good, hope the story line is too. I am going to purchase it.

I guess they changed the way the guns work. Looks like they still have infinite ammo but moved away from the heat and into a clip count - you can see the readout on the assault rifle, and after the counter runs down he has to "smack" the gun and it restarts.

Looks awesome.

It looks sick as hell. I also have been playing ME1 since original release and cannot wait to pwn some bitch Geth in ME2. Bring it on Bioware!

I like the new Husk running animation, definitely makes them seem more threatening. I also like what seem to be grenade launcher attachments for the guns; more explosives tend to be better.

The only thing I don't really like is how the game looks to be aiming for a darker, grittier feel. The art style just seems a bit cliche, too much like Gears for me. But maybe it'll work, I won't know until I get my hands on it.

@LarcenousLaugh - I don't think it's infinite. There's a readout on the bottom left that seems like an ammo count, seeing how when Shepard reloads it goes down.

Wow this looks a heck of alot prettier than the first ME. I hope they don't let the player have infinite ammo. It would make the game more challenging but based on what I saw it looks to be better. From the looks of it, it looks like he slaps a clip in the gun. Love the grenade launcher with the machine gun.

A nice touch to show that damage does affect Shepard, he was too superhuman the last game. Love the possibilty of the larger weapons playing a role in this game especially nice to kill hoards of Husks.

Is it me or when he has both weapons on his back it looks like the Proton pack from Ghostbusters (only upsidedown)?

Actually you have Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and The Orange Box to thank for starting the trend of achievement/medal tracking, not Gears of War 2.

I think it looks awesome. I like clip count over the heat thing form the first game. I am wondering thought with all the weapon switching the player did if you have to use all the weapons or if you can kind of specialize in one and be just good in the others. That is what I did on ME1. Each character had there weapon of choice and used that all the time. I also like the grenade launcher on the Assault Rifle
instead of the separate launcher thing. The damage reaction thing looks to add to the game some and I like the fact that it heading to more of a Gears of War set up for combat. I wish more FPS games would. Cause if you are being shot at you would take cover or use it to your advantage. It makes the game more interesting then just running around and shooting stuff.

i trust bioware with the series.. they rarely take missteps in their approach.. mass effect 2 will be a smooth and fantastic experience i'm sure..

At least shields are still playing a part in this. I hate games that give you auto health like Gears of War 2 and COD4. Hey look at me I can take 100 rounds to the face but hide behind this box for 5 seconds and Im back to normal!

go ahead and give me the thumbs down...............but am I the only one who thought Mass Effect was Lame. Now keep in mind I'm not saying it was a BAD game. A lot of people liked it. I just thought it was outstandingly lame...................Anyone else???

I thought it looked amazing, we are in such a golen age of gaming and some of the things people complain about just shows that we're just so spoiled these days. When I came up Id spend my whole allowence at the acade playing fooseball, pinball and asteriods every week and when my friend got pong on TV it was on. I see alot of compag to gears here, but I don't see it. My imediate thought was very Dead Space looking, but nothing wrong with that either.
