Warren Spector’s twisted vision of the Disney universe known as Epic Mickey wasn’t always a Wii exclusive. In fact, as Spector told the Official Nintendo Magazine, the game was originally planned for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Spector recalls meeting with head of Disney Interactive Graham Hopper to discuss what the best strategy would be to deliver the highest quality game possible. The result of that meeting?
“At that time we were talking about a Wii port and I was begging people - no, we can't just port to the Wii, it's not going to work. It needs to be its own game. A lot of the design ideas just won't work on the Wii, we need to give the Wii its dues. Graham looked at me and said 'What do you think about a Wii exclusive?' And I went 'Holy cow - yeah!'"
While I definitely respect Spector and company deciding to focus their attention in the pursuit of a higher quality game, it also kind of sets the bar much higher than it otherwise would have been in terms of what players will expect from the game. I mean, the Wii definitely deserves more kick ass exclusives, but it would be a shame if its technical limitations in any way held back the ultimate vision the developers have for the game. This is a fantastic concept for a game, and I really want to see it as fully realized as possible. And I don’t mean that in a graphics whorish way. I just hope the Wii can do justice to the scope and vision that the game seems to warrant. But hey, if it’s good enough for Warren Spector, I guess it will do for little ol’ me until I have reason to think otherwise.
What do you think of Epic Mickey ditching every other platform in favor of the Wii? Do you think the vision of the game will be compromised at all to accommodate for the Wii’s technological capabilities? Or is the concept itself so solid that the platform on which it’s made is really irrelevant?

Of course the vision will be compromised. they either have to dumb it down for the toddlers or slow the pace for the elderly.
too bad cuz the game might have done good on a REAL system.
BTW you really should not put WII and TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES in the same sentence. collecting dust is not something to be proud of.

I think this game will give me a reason to play a Wii game other then Wii Sports...

Wow, The Wii finally gets a game im jealous for. Too bad they cant live it up to its full capabilities, it would have been better as an Ps3/360/PC title. Too bad, the sales for this game will most likely prove my statement to them.

way the go Graham, thanks for your wonderful idea.

Maybe if it does good enough on the wii they will make 360/ps3 versions of the game. It would be nice to see the concept art come to life in a game the way it looks on paper. Though the cartoony feel will work on the wii, Id like to see something along the lines of whats in the art so you could get that stream punk and eerie feel to it.

I have to say, If they are able to pull this off, and im not just talking bout graphics, Im talking about and actual great game. Story, Intrigue, Game Mechanics oh yeah and more importantly Overall Fun Factor. Because we've all seen a game or two with wonderful graphics but terrible everything else. But thats not all, were also talking about Marketing, extra content. If they pull all of this off Nintendo will definitely, be taking a step in the right direction to win back the favor of Gamefans that were either disappointed or lost all respect and trust in the Brand.

I think that Epic Mickey fits the Wii. Mickey and the Wii are both made for the whole family where the PS3 and 360 are for a more specific audience.

all those lost res textures and obvious last gen pixels make my eyes hurt no matter how good the game is. too bad they came with the bright idea to make it ONLY for the Wii. they could have had 2 devs, one for the wii and the others do the PC/PS3/360 version. and don't tell me "it will cost alot!" becuz that is bull, if you have enough to buy MARVEL you can make 2 different games. maybe the inevitable bad sales of this game will force the devs to make it on the other HD consoles!

The painting concept doesnt fit with the 360 or ps3, this game should be exclusive to the wii. Especially because of its lack of really good 3rd party games.

I believe it would work very well on the Wii, especially if they used cel-shading, like Okami.

eff da haters. I own every console but the PS3 and I still put time in on my wii because it has kick ass games. Does the PS3 or 360 have Zelda? Does the PS3 or 360 have Mario? Ravvin Rabbids? Metriod?
Yeah, it DOES have it's limitations, but the last time I checked, it still has some pretty kick ass games. ^_^

It's a smart strategy if you ask me.
If a great or at least decent game enters the Wii market, it will make a whole mess of money. Think about it, the Wii (somehow) has a much larger audience than any other console, and that audience is also the most starved for a good game.
It's stiff competition between games on all the other systems.
Nintendo probably jizzed in their pants when they heard the news.

actually this game will sell well since Mickey Mouse is the main character, as long as this game is good I don't think it has anything to worry about.

I'll reserve my judgement for when the game comes out.

Ive worked at Walt Disney World in orlando Florida.
Im extremely impressed by the early builds of this game. THeyre finally putting a notable character, know currently for dancing, singing, and the dreams come true crap, into an action adventure. ALso, the environments and concepts had my jaw drop.
It is a known fact , as instructed by my trainer at the All-Star Resorts, that Mickey Mouse is the second most recognizable character on Earth. (Number one is Jesus) So this will definitely give the Wii a kick-ass game and boost sales. but by how much is the question that we wont get thte answer til the game comes out. Mickey is popular and the designers seem to have their talents and ideas in the right place. THey seem to be making mickey the way he was meant to be, adventurous but always michevious. But due to the wii's limited and gimmicky hardware,it is debatable if those concepts and gameplay elements ideas will work. id love the game to look, feel, and play great and get the same level of excellece as Super Smash Bros Brawl. Theyre really doing this for the motion controls and the targeted audience. They can make the game great if they take the time to iron out what can mar the game. Hopefully it does well. And maybe they can re-create for the other platforms. its possible...

the wii is a real system why do people think innovation can only be done with the best available technology. Game design is about working best with the material's you have not working with the best materials.

I'm lost of words, somebody was actually merciful to the Wii. I got one and all but dammit ditching a the high powered systems makes me feel I got kicked in the nuts. I hope it get good review and then perhaps I buy it for the Wii.
