Left 4 Dead 2 Avatar Awards Confirmed »

Avatar awards in Left 4 Dead 2? Will NXE’s glaringly unused feature finally get some developer love? Yes! Left 4 Dead 2 is one of the first games (Splosion Man implemented them as well) to let you earn gear for your avatar by accomplishing in-game feats. Think of them as secondary achievements with sweet bonus prizes.

Valve confirmed that the awards include a health pack for your avatar, a host of L4D2 shirts and Rochelle’s pretty pink Depeche Mode t-shirt, among other gifts.

There will be nine avatar awards. Six have been confirmed so far. Here's what we know:

  • Left 4 Dead 2 Shirt – A Left 4 Dead 2 shirt earned by winning 10 games of Scavenge
  • Left 4 Dead 2 Shirt #2 – A Left 4 Dead 2 shirt earned by winning 10 games of Scavenge
  • Depeche Mode Shirt – A sweet Depeche Mode shirt earned by rescuing Gnome Chompski from the Dark Carnival.
  • Depeche Mode Shirt #2 – A sweet Depeche Mode shirt earned by rescuing Gnome Chompski from the Dark Carnival.
  • Zombie Hand Shirt – A scary zombie shirt earned by killing 10,000 Infected
  • Zombie Hand Shirt #2 – A scary zombie shirt earned by killing 10,000 Infected

I'm definitely looking forward to having some clothing for my avatar that actually relates to the games I play; it seems long overdue. What about you? Do you care about the threads your video game self is flossing?

Can this day get any better?!?

The demo is awesome. The weapons have a better feel than the first one, the environments are so well done, and I love the twist of the original music done in a Southern/Jazz style. This going to be one of the best games of the year.

They said, back when this feature was announced, that it would be a while before games started rewarding Avatar Awards. To answer your question: I am looking forward to some of the awesome things the games start rewarding. I won't be getting L4D2 (not anytime soon, anyway) but I will be waiting to see what (if any) Assassin's Creed II and Modern Warfare 2 awards are.

oh yay, Home awards..oh wait this is microsoft lol. Serious question though..did ms also get avatar awards for tekken 6 like ps3 owners? If so then I think y'all can expect capcom n namco avatar reward clothing...oh and I can't forget about EA purchasable avatar clothing. I mentioned capcom because we have reward from street fighter and resident evil.maybe SSIV will bring avatar rewards

Hell to the YES, it's about time some higher profile games started supporting avatar awards. The least one's virual self can do is represent real-life interests, and avatar awards are a great way to do that.

    It's about darn time!!!

10k kills ain't nothing compared to the grinding i had to do in Dead Rising to score those 53k+ zombies

I'd love to see the awards given for Mass Effect 2 & Splinter Cell: Conviction. Also isn't ODST supposed to get some awards as well?

Um I'll believe it when I see it. Splosion Man has been out for over 3 months now, and Microsoft just now has FINALLY released the avatar award update this week that Twisted Pixel had done for it months ago! Judging by this video though, it looks like it's already part of the game, so hopefully this won't be subjected to Microsoft's ridiculously long certification process that Twisted Pixel got hindered by.

YES!! avatar awards are perfect! I see them as an extension of achievements. I love having that extra challenge earning certain achievements and now we can have more proof than just a picture avatar awards are basically trophies...that you can wear, and i think they have the potential to take the place of or sit closely to regular achievements

Seems weird to have 2 awards for 1 event... they could have stretched it out a bit more, had 6 shirts for doing 6 unique things.

I think every major title released at this point should have avatar awards. If devs want to have some premium avatar stuff, thats fine but all major games should have at least one item for the player to earn by playing the game.

i miss the old music for left 4 dead, character design feels weaker than the first one, and in the demo, it felt like alot of bugs were present(it feels as though the game is designed only for widescreen)

that and it feels as though valve is just pulling a gears of war 2 where they add a whole bunch of changes and additions that ultimately hurt the game.
