Brink Will Feature Dedicated Servers, Aliens Vs. Predator...Maybe

In response to Infinity Ward's move away from a PC tradition of player-customized dedicated servers in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, more and more developers are coming out and publicly embracing the concept. Splash Damage says its upcoming parkour-enhanced Brink will support dedicated servers, according to a report out of Eurogamer from its own Eurogamer Expo.

DICE confirmed this week dedicated servers would be a part of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. It's unclear for other games, though.

The question of dedicated servers will likely become one of the first issues journalists present to game developers with PC versions coming in the future. CVG recently met up with Rebellion, who is currently working on Aliens vs. Predator, headed to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The latest iteration in the franchise is a console first, but Rebellion has a strong PC history.

"It [the series] was originally a PC title so you can imagine the heritage and the need within Rebellion itself to make sure that people who still play and talk of that game are not left behind," said senior producer David Brickley, quietly dodging the question. "As I said the game is still quite a way from release so I guess there are other things to be determined during that time."

The response to Infinity Ward's change may weigh heavily on that final decision.

PC gamers need to stop whining. Grow up and buy a console. All the normal people stopped playing games on their PC after Doom.

@SmarterThanYou: If normal people are children who get their girlish giggles by posting snarky, trollish comments insulting large groups of strangers in the comments section of video game news websites, then I'm not too upset to be excluded from the normal-people-pep-bad you've got going on.

@PatrickI think it is smart marketing to point out the inclusion of dedicated servers for these other games, but in the end I really don't think this whole situation, despite the number of people talking about it, is going to hurt or help sales for Infinity Ward or another other companies. As shone by the L4D2 boycott-like-rebellion fans attempted, people will find a way to be unhappy, justified or not. But will we still buy the game? Yeah, probably.

For all the whining coming out of PC gamers, are going to buy the game anyway. Sales won't be hurt by the < 1% of people who need their dedicated servers so bad that they boycott the purchase. It's a mute point.

i love when people who know nothing of a different game platform talk about it. i have a 360, ps3, and pc, the whole boycott isnt about a stupid sequel like LFD2(yes that was a stupid boycott from Valve fanboys)this however threatens to change the way games are played on a PC, so it is justified.

@SmarterThanYou you obviously are not your precious console im assuming 360 is a PC ,all be it a poorly made one. if you were a real gamer instead of a whiny fanboy posting on why PC gamers are crybabies, you should understand where we as a whole are coming from.

Example: if lets say IW decided that they are going to abandon DLC and matchmaking for your 360 so you now have to rely on another 360 owners connection speed. would you be upset about that as a 360 owner and community??

I have 360,PS3, and PC. I am a fanboy of all the gaming platforms!! So i do believe IW is making a BIG mistake on turning there back on the PC players out there. Are they that stressed for cash on one of the most Selling IPs out there....They cant afford it ... I don't know if they have stated there reasons for not having dedicated servers on PC, but i would like to know. Its a slap in the face of PC gamers every where ....and PC haters, wait till they decide to put dedicated servers for one of the consoles instead of both...YaA think about that..

Assuming that half the people who petitioned IW for dedicated servers don't buy the game, and the developer makes $10 per copy ( a low estimate I think), thats 100,000 copies not sold, or $1million. Not exactly chump change to any companies accounting dept. I think if it were my money, I'd want the 1 mil., and obviously other game developers agree. And - off subject, why do console gamers get the crazed fanboy thing so easily? I mean, all a console is nowadays is a dumbed down computer with less options made to be easily operated by the masses. (and yes, I own a PS3 also)
