Roger Daltrey Hints About Rock Band: The Who

Rock stars are simultaneously the best and worse sources for early news about music games. They're the best because they often reveal details before anyone else -- that rock and roll spirit is alive and well in the aughts, people; rockers only marginally care about public relations release schedules and marketing plans. (Revealing information early about consumer products is rebellious! Way to stick it to The Man!) But rock groups are the worst because they're so often wrong about what they say.

Take Roger Daltrey from The Who. When asked about Beatles: Rock Band In a recent interview, Daltrey said, "They’re going to be doing a Who one next year. There is one planned. (The idea) is fabulous. Anything that gets non-musical people interested in music is wonderful. In my opinion, music is our last true great freedom. They can burn our books, they can burn our paintings, but they can’t stop us singing and making music."

If we see The Who: Rock Band (Or Guitar Hero: The Who)  I'll send you all five bucks -- it's never gonna happen. Not because of some nefarious anti-rock force trying to stop The Who from "singing or making music," but instead due to hardcore Capitalism. Perhaps at some point there was a plan for a Who-centric video game, but with music sales slumping and band-specific rock games being given-away (unless they star The Beatles,) the climate is just not right for The Who to have its own game.

I suspect we'll see tons of downloadable content from The Who, though. After all, wasn't Who's Next originally announced as a full Rock Band album? Still hasn't shown up, though. If/when we see a glut of The Who DLC, I'll buy every bit of it, and then I'll smash up my living room with my plastic axe at the end of "My Generation."

I'd buy The Who: Rock Band and U2: Rock Band before I buy The Beatles: Rock Band

I will never buy another GH game after GH3 all other games have sucked. I liked GH: Aerosmith, because it was just that, GUITARS, but once they added other instruments and 20+ extra games it became watered down and sucked. I love the Rock Band games and still play them and will get future ones, minus the legos.

Just got the free GH: Van Halen in the mail yesterday. At least Activision was serious about that.

Or...you could just download the "Best of The Who" DLC pack for Rock Band that was released in July 2008, and play the "Live at Leeds" version of "My Generation", along with a number of their other classics.

Does anyone have an extra computer monitor? I just broke mine with the massive erection I got.

I hope this isn't just speculation, and I hope Rock Band is the party to deliver. Because there are some of us out there who like The Who way more than The Beatles. And when it does come out, I'll be looking for my 5 bucks Mr. Johnson.

I already downloaded like 10 Who songs. I love The Who but a stand alone game is not needed. Give me more dlc or dlc that gives us shirts, venues and characters along with the music and the entire problem is solved.

No Rock Band, don't go the way of Guitar Hero and made a new one every 3 to 6 months.

I agree with the masses on this one. I grew up on The Who, still an avid fan, but DLC all the way. Release more tracks, in-game items, Premium Themes, and Avatar items and I will buy it all before I go near a stand alone game.

Has anybody heard the Bob and Tom rock band Commercial with the Who game and the rock band Jimmy Hendrix game. It is one of the funniest radio sketches out there. Try to find it and enjoy.

I would buy a the Who-centric game on day one. You might be surprised Mr. Johnson of how many people would buy such game. I love their music, especially the way Keith Moon played drums. If a full game does not happen, I would like for Harmonix to release the full albums or more songs from Happy Jack/A Quick One and the Who Sold Out.

I'll honestly buy anything related to The Who, but I'd much rather have them be given the same treatment The Beatles got with their game, but I have my doubts that it will happen; either way DLC or full on game I'm buying it on day one
