Borderlands

Reader Zac Morris e-mailed me this morning about a major bug affecting Borderlands gamers on PlayStation 3. The friends list is broken, preventing many from inviting friends to join online co-op adventures through the wasteland. Gearbox has confirmed the issue is a real problem on its message boards and said it's already developing "a fix" (which should mean a patch in the near future).

"We've identified the problem and are working on a fix," said Gearbox software engineer Scott Velasquez in a thread identifying the issue. "Believe it or not, the friends feature was heavily tested by Gearbox and 2K. However, this particular issue we found could have never manifested itself in our or 2K's test environments."

Gearbox is currently investigating whether the issue is only a problem for North American gamers, or if every version of Borderlands will have to be updated.

"If it does, we’ll hopefully have a fix implemented before it affects those customers," continued Velasquez. "We are doing everything we can to get this problem addressed as quickly as possible. Thanks to everybody who provided us with tons of information."

Are you experiencing this bug? Let me know in the comments.

You forgot to add that the lobby to find an online game is also broken. It freezes most of the time and when it does load it takes a very long time to do so (up to hours).

That's why these small devs don't get my money. They don't put 100% effort into the PS3 version like Capcon, EA, and Ubisoft to name a few.

you think they would have found this obvious bug in beta testing. It's amazing what kinds of glitches make it into the final game lol.

My friends don't show up when I try to host a private game. It really sucks because my friends and I all bought it for the ps3. This is a really big bug, I don't understand how this could be released with a problem this big.

This is why some companies choose not to release on a certain console. MS, Nintendo, and Sony have different types of SDKs. You can't expect the same game to work on all three without some type of bug like this.
