There will be plenty of headlines today saying Epic Games VP Mark Rein declared all future Epic Games releases will include some level of support for Microsoft's upcoming Project Natal. Rein either misspoke or became too excited in an interview with the UK's Official Xbox Magazine, however, as Epic's business guy released a much more tempered statement to me.
The confusion stems from Rein's comments to OXM where he wavered back and forth between talking about Natal support in future Epic Games-developed products (of which none have so far been announced) and simply being part of the standard developer tools for Unreal Engine 3.
"I think any future Xbox games we make will have some Natal support," he told the publication. "We always want to have something that exploits the unique capabilities of a platform."
Rein backed off from confirming a mandate for future Epic Games (such as a hypothetical Gears of War 3) releases to include Natal features when I contacted him this morning, however.
"At this point I'm only speaking for the engine," he said to me over e-mail. "I was speculating on the kind of things I, as a gamer, could see implemented in Natal for shooter-style games. Sorry if there was any confusion there."

I am glad to hear companies making this available in their engines etc.

Epic sucks. Gears 2 is a steaming pile of glitchy, buggy, and laggy garbage.

I'm not, I dont care if they add this as an OPTION but I do not want to get up and move around in front of a camera, I play games to sit down and relax after a hard day at work. If they make it mandatory then I'll take my xbox out and hit it with a car and go back to being a 100% sony guy.

I can see Epic screwing up natal already lol.
I dont think Natal will work with any of Epics Big games. Remember Natal has about a 2 to 3 second lag.
And I wont be spending 200 dollars on Natal.

@Epic
Please keep that garbage, aka Natal, out of your Unreal Engine. I dont see why you would want to package garbage with a diamond (as an analogy). So dont bundle Natal with the engine. Natal will suck. I dont want to look like a jackass playing a game like gears which makes me feel like a super badass on a high protein diet.

Natal with Gears of War = actual real life chainsawing?!

Wow Natal sucks? Has a 2-3 second lag? You guys must be industry insiders with privileged knowledge and hands-on time the rest of us poor sobs don't have access to!
Good thing the people who count don't have the same limited imaginations... I can easily foresee games that recognize you by sight, can interpret hand/body signals/etc (i.e. waving a squad mate forward) as moving the experience forward.

I don't think that anyone who bought Gears 1 & 2 are interested in Natal. The more M$ forces Natal the more the will push away their hardcore fan base.

I hope UT4 uses Natal in some way!

Ps3 bots.LOL Natal is something Ps3 doesnt have so they fight against it. Its funny all those exclusives and only 2 good ones out now and in the next couple of days(MGS4 and Uncharted).Mag lol talk about lag. Kingdom Hearts lol the second one sucked anyway. FF who cares?

You guys are just looking at shooters as if they are all games. But natal would be awesome for games just a a fighter were you are fighting scorpion and beating him up, or a game like xmen wolverines were you can pick up a character and throw him on a spike.
Natal is gonna sell like crazy, and natal fit or natal yoga will be purchased by chicks in the millions.
Blue_Vortex
Maybe Epic could make an RTS game using Natal.

Milo game!! lmfao

I can't wait to get my hands on Natal. I want to hook it up to my computer and program games for it since MS made it interoperable.
PrNatal
Another important thing anyway. They will implement Natal into their Unreal Engine 3.
So every developer could make Natal games with that engine:

I look forward to future endeavors. I hope it won't let me down.

@PBone
Due to digital televisions processing there is an inherent latency in all games.
For a game running 30fps the lowest possible latency is 100ms (50ms or 3 frames for 1080p). Many games do not achieve this:
HeavenlySword 300ms
GTA4 133-200ms
KZ2 150ms (12 frames minus 3 frames for the tv = 9 frames for 150ms)
Total latency for KZ2 with tv is 200ms
Natal is 200ms
