Morning Hangover #71 -- Andrew Looks For Feedback, Patrick Has TV Envy

Andrew Pfister: We wanted Feedback, then you wanted Feedback. Now I'm asking you for some feedback on Feedback. The show returns this week with Adam Sessler at the helm and a slightly longer running time, but what I'd like to know is how you guys watch Internet shows and listen to podcasts. What's your favorite show? How long is too long? Do you prefer video or audio -- and if you like both, when and where do you watch and listen? Do you watch on your iPods/Zunes, stream to your TV, just watch it in your browser?

I thirst for this knowledge. Thirst.

Uncharted 2 Review

Patrick Klepek: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves slid across my desk this week and once the girlfriend started to doze off, it was time for some adventuring with Nathan Drake. Among other things, Uncharted 2 is epic. It's epic in every sense of the word. But here's the thing. I've never had a problem with the size of my TV, but the moment Nathan started scaling a train car in the middle of some snowy mountains, I felt electronic envy. Uncharted 2 is an adventure deserving of a larger presentation -- I can now see why people have been so interested in seeing the game played on theater screens. Have you ever encountered a game that made your credit card tingle?

TheFeed gang wants your thoughts on gaming, tech, how far behind America is with snacks, and more. Let everyone know what you're thinking and chat it up with your fellow readers. Leave comments on anything and everything that's on your (gaming/tech/nerd) mind!

Klepek did try to interact yesterday in the morning hangover. But like 3 hrs later lol....I used to have a small tv 26inch? The dailog that appears in the game was all jumbo up! The game play didn't feel life like and the explosion seems weak.I didnt think much of it until I went over to my sisters house. Lets just say I went home, save my money and bought me a 50inch samsung. I can tell you its not the same after you go big... Klepek it's time to upgrade 1080p on a big screen rock! Infact it will add more gameplay value to your game as well lol.

I don't know the Feedback but I do watch his soapbox. I guess video isn't necessary but I usually watch it anyway.

When I moved in with a previous set of roommates I had a 32" Westinghouse. out of jealousy of my roommate's 50" projection I switched to a 46" flat Samsung and got a whole new love for all my games.

Early this year, however, I finally bought the TV I always wanted. The Sony Bravia 52" and just about every game looks amazing on it. I am very excited about Uncharted 2, it's going to look gorgeous.

I got mine at cons 50inch Samsung Plasma 1million to 1 contrast O.O for only 800!!! BTW plasma burn is but the past. I perfer plasma over lcd only because of the contrast it gives off. LCD isn there yet and plasma is cheap thanks to lcd :) I have my plasma for 2 years now. But than again I don't watch tv much on it and all I do is play video games... So I guess thats why the color haven't fade...etc.... If you guys ever get a plasma I would recomend to tone down contrast everything to less than 50% for the first week. Because thats when plasma is at the brightest...Besure to set your burn protection mode to the max...Only new screens have burn proof... The old ones don't besure to ask if your plasma have it or not its important!

It's not the size that matters, it how you use it.

MGS 4 was pretty much the clincher on me needing a bigger TV. I had an old 32" square TV that did HD, but once the bars were there the screen size was about a 26" equivalent. In a game where you're trying to blend and seeing small details is basically the whole point, squinting and sitting close just didn't cut it. I got a nice 46" 120Hz Samsung and I couldn't be happier, I still get that "wow" feeling every time I pop in a new Blu-Ray.

The Feedback is fine. I just think that you guys need to say what you really feel and quit trying to be so politically correct and quit worrying about what fanboys will think.

I'm overloaded on gaming podcasts. I watch all of them on the web. I think being well-informed is about taking in lots of different opinions - not just the ones you agree with.

I come here for Feedback, Soapbox, and MMO Report - even though that last one is mostly news and previews. Over at Game Trailers I listen to Epic Battle Cry and Invisible Walls (they have video but most of the time it's just the same looping animation). Screwattack has a few podcasts, but it's mostly news, retrogaming stuff, or reviews. They don't really sit down to chat about their opinions, but their Out of the Box segment is awesome. They give more information about a game they cover on that segment than most reviews of it from other sources combined.

I prefer the podcasts you can listen to over the ones you read simply because I can get more stuff done while I'm listening. Of course, multitasking means I miss some details once in a while and I have to watch the show again, but I have no problem with that.

The good thing about listening to many different sources is that I can never take any one set of opinions as my own. A lot of the people on the different shows disagree with each other, so I have to sit down, do my own research, and come up with my own opinion. I see a lot of comments on this site where people watch a Soapbox and just say "I agree with you Adam!" And that makes me cringe. You were presented with an opinion and just blindly accept it? Sometimes I agree with Adam and sometimes I don't. But regardless of how I feel, I'm confident that my opinion is my own, not some idea implanted by an official sounding voice from the internet.

As for more direct feedback about Feedback...
I'd be nice if you could purposely have people on the show that disagreed with each other on certain issues. Epic Battle Cry and Invisible Walls always have the same people, and they tend to agree and disagree over the same issues so much it gets predictable. Feedback doesn't seem to have a steady cast, and I think you can take advantage of that. It's not that I want to see people argue, but it goes back to how I prefer to hear more viewpoints over certain issues or games.
Every game, no matter how good or bad it is, will have people who like it and dislike it. Having people with opposing viewpoints talk about it is more reflective of the public's reaction than just presenting popular opinions.

That's about all the criticism I can give. I like the show and the format. I hope to see many more episodes down the line.

@Andrew - have to say that the only podcast/webcast I really ever listen to on a regular basis is SModcast (Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier)(and of course Feedback). Audio is a bit easier for me because I can throw on a set of headphones at work and just listen to the iphone, though I really like the video presentation you guys have been doing for feedback. Can't wait to get some time today and see what cooking now that Berghammer is away.

@Patrick - never had one that made my card tingle short of wanting to buy it. I got lucky and got the big screen at the same time I got the PS3 (I have an awesome roommate!), and with the surround sound, I have yet to be disappointed (though I think you always wish for bigger).

What's your favorite show? The only other podcast I listen to is Blizzcast.

How long is too long? Anything below 2 hours is fine.

Do you prefer video or audio? Both

When and where do you watch and listen? On my computer, whenever I have time.

Looking forward to Adam taking the lead.

The Xbox is becoming more and more casual. The hardcore games are becoming shovelware.

My favorite video game PODCAST is 1up's listen up second is The warzone from the Bitbag with Torrence Davis and crew and I can forget even tho its not gaming it a comic book PODCAST is LEOG at spill.com . I watch them all on my pc audio or video it does not matter . Now I know I have not mentioned Feedback yet but thats only because this show is so new and it is only 30nim and the other show I have been watching or listing to them for quite some time and to say that you are the best would be a disservice to the other shows I just mentioned . That does not mean I do not love Feedback and I know it will someday take the top spot but it will have be a longer show
