I'd debated bringing up the price point and value assessment in that piece, but that wasn't what I wanted to talk about. It came up anyway, though, and while I want to address where price factors into the equation in a later post, here's a quick one: how much would you have preferred Halo 3 ODST to cost?

Their new album "Backspacer" is available in full for download shortly after the release of the album itself, and with the already announced project that will incorporate fan-voted live tracks, now's a very good time to be part of the "Jamily." (Ugh, 19 years later and that's still a terrible name.) I'm realizing, mostly with horror, that there's an entire generation of young rockers who don't really know the band but would absolutely love them, and hopefully their presence in Rock Band will open up some ears.

The problem with ODST's pricing was the second disc. They couldn't price it lower than $60 because then people just buying the 360 after the price drop would have no incentive to ever get the original Halo 3. Having said that, I would've preferred if you could've just bought the campaign disc by itself for say $30-40.
Overall, I do think the entire package is worth $60. I've beat the campaign once solo, once with 3 friends, and I've done most of the firefight maps. The multiplayer disc has also reinvigorated my interest in Halo multiplayer, which I hadn't played for a long time.
I think the 2 big factors in whether people will be happy with entire package are:
1) Do you have friends that are getting the game? Multiplayer campaign and no matchmaking on firefights is a big loss for people who don't have friends getting the game.
2) Do you already have all the Halo multiplayer maps? Having been away so long from Halo, I hadn't purchased any of the maps through DLC so the multiplayer was refreshing to me because of that reason.

The game should be around 30 bucks. Klep wake up and drink some coffee you die hard halo fanboy. Even if they come out with the next sequel and have 2 maps plus 1hr of game play. You would give it a 5 star and say it's worth the 60bucks. Firefight is nothing new but a mere copy of gears of war...It's too quick and too short. Plus not everyone likes to play online.

Scotty already said the same price I was going to. I bought it for $65. It was not worth that to me. Apparently it wasn't what a lot of people thought it should be because over the next week our local Hasting's stopped buying them back because so many were being sold back very quickly.
As for the second disc. Thanks I already bought most of the other map packs with Halo 3. And I only bought those to run around in with friends because i hate Halo Multiplayer. I don't buy any game for multiplayer.

Also, there should have been an option to buy just the single player campaign. I for one, don't play multiplayer games very often, so the second disc means little to me.

I would have paid $40 for OSDT. I have the DLC already so I feel a bit cheated. I'm going to hold out for a sale, or a reduced price. Maybe if more of my friends pick it up, I'll go for it.

Patrick, I had no qualms about spending 60 bucks on it, would I have been happier if it were 30, 40, or 50, probaby.. but I'm more than happy with my purchase at 60. I've already spent over 20 hours in the game and haven't even touched the second disc.
Hell, I woulda paid 60 for shadow complex if that was a full release. I'd really like to know if there are any xbox fans/owners who think 60 was a rip-off. seems to me like most of the people complaining didn't like halo/360 in the first place.

as far as Pearl Jam goes, I used to listen to them when I was younger but honestly I didn't really know they were still singing. truth be told I don't even listen to their old stuff much anymore

I guess when it comes down to it value in a game is what you get out of it and not what you spend on it. I'll be happy with any Halo game because I know there's lots of replay value. I'm sure Uncharted 2 will be worth a lot more than $60 to me but all that matters is that I enjoy it. if not, then don't spend the money or wait for a sale.

$29.99 would have been a good price for ODST. It should be illegal to sell the exact same multi-player from 2 years ago that people already paid $60 for. I can't believe so many people are O.K. with that.

Wow. Righteous Anger. Nerd Rage. I just finished going through Patrick's article from yesterday, and just the amount of "gimme what I paid for" attitude was awesome.
Let me break it down this way: If you want the best for what you pay for, then pay for only the best. They made no secret of what was going to be in that box. In numerous videos they made very clear what they were giving out, they said there was going to be an extra disc with all the previous maps. There was no surprise.
Bungie is brilliant. They took such a well calculated risk with the game that I am more then willing to not even call it that. It wasn't a risk. It was brand management. The only person you have to be angry with if you bought ODST is yourself.
What I find even more amazing, is that people who actually enjoyed it, are being scolded for enjoying it. "You can't be serious?" "Tell me your joking?" "You didn't get your money's worth." Guess what folks, you don't get to decide someone else's interpretation. For all your fanboy whining and nerd rage crying, emo tears and wallet fears, the only thing you are left with is a handful of tissues, a wet shirt and a snotty nose.
Pat, thanks for standing up and telling us what you thought. Despite the almost assured Firefight (see what I did there) you had on your hands you weren't afraid to put your opinion out there (and for the record, even when it failues, innvoation and experimentation succceed). Sark, thanks for your review, because you put your opinion out there, and that's what you get paid for, even if the masses disagree, on that page, the only opinion that matters is yours.
For the rest of you, if you don't think you are getting your money's worth, don't spend your cash. If you think it's a rip off, it is. But if you think that just because your nerd rage makes your butt pucker it means that mine has no other choice but too, think again.

This game should be 30 bucks. Seriously, more games like this in the industry? I will say what I said before. We do not need the industry plagued by games that are cheap rip-offs of games that were poorly designed to begin with.
ODST was developed in a year because they used the Halo3 engine and didn't have to build it from the ground up. Like I said, it was a cheap rip-off of a game that was already poorly designed to begin with.

I just think this whole concept of value is ridiculous. I bought KZ2 for $60. I played through it once and per usual didn't touch multiplayer. the game was ok but co-op wold have been nice. was the game worth $60. ya sure...
ODST I'm on my second play through and am doing co-op with a friend. I also try to get together with friends to do firefights once a week for achievements.
this is not about PS3/360. I just think ODST was well worth $60 because I don't usually get that much replay value out of most games I buy. I really appreciate that about the 360

when i first heard about the game i was expecting about 30 40 bucks but wen i found out it was two discs with a beta for an upcoming game i wasnt just buying it for odst i was buying it for the newly improved halo 3 multiplayer disc

I really get annoyed by the pricing for all the games out there. $65 is way above my wallet. I'm lucky to fork over the 34 for a new pokemon game. I wish they were all 29.95 and the "special edition with the figurine and art book version was 75.00. Of course I'm married, have 2 cars and a house payment to deal with so I know I'm not in the average reader's demographic. Honestly, I just bought Boom Blox because it made it to 19.99. I haven't even played Halo 3, let alone ODST and I probably won't for a long time.
