Rumors of a price cut for the Wii have swirled for months, as sales numbers for the Wii have dipped. Nintendo pulled back Wii's price point to $199 as of September 27, a $50 drop for the console. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told the Financial Times the cut was designed for "fence sitters," consumers interested in video games but who do not currently own a game console.
“There are literally millions of consumers out there who want a Wii and had been on the sidelines,” he said, discussing the sales response with the publication. "They’d been waiting for that little nudge to go out and pick it up - the price decline, the sampling, the launching of key software like Wii Fit Plus

Do you know of anyone who's been pushed into buying a Wii because of the cut?

I think a price drop didn't make sense since the Wii was soooo cheap as it is and now it's cheap as dirt that it's kinda scary xP but I do know someone who might buy it cuz of how dirt cheap it is now..
gambit1023
I don't know anybody who wants a Wii...then again i dont know anybody under the age of 12 so that probably explains it.

I was torn between the Wii and the XBOX 360 before the drop, and I still am torn after. All I have is a PS3, and the problem for the Wii, is that I'm wanting to wait for the "Sony Sphere" instead of buying a whole new console. I doubt Sony's motion controller will cost $199. What is Nintendo going to do against the threat of Sony and Microsoft's motion controllers, because I don't see dropping the price by 50 bucks doing much?

I have a friend that I've been pushing to but a Wii, but he just figured he could get one even cheaper used, so a price drop doesn't really effect people like him.
Sighatxplay
Well kidtendo look at PS3 and the 360 you could get a system with lower quality sound and graphics for 250 bucks or you could spend the extra 50 bucks and get a system that plays either blue ray or dvds and has amazing graphics and high quality sound.... and to be honest not a whole lotta people would pass up ps3/360 for 50 extra bucks so i think the price cut was a smart move on nintendo's part.

If your on the fence, get your ass off, its time stand firmly on the side of not getting one. Dont waste money on that garbage, get a PS3 or 360.
GingerKid
I know lots of people who already own a Wii and now the interest is already starting to wear off and they don't play it anymore

I had a Wii before my PS3. It has a good sized selection of games, something that can't be said for 360 that's for sure. Even if I don't use it constantly at least there are plenty of reasons to own one. Yes I'm over 12 and no I don't play much multiplayer.

Should be "Wii gets decent games aimed at 'Fence Sitters'"
GingerKid
The only people buyin Wii's now are the uneducated non-gamer parents buying them for their young kids.
GamerbyDesign
Can anybody drop me a line when the Wii gets to $99? That when I would think about jumping into it. This is nothing more than a GameCube that has 480P on every game, motion controllers, and online play.
BONERJAM
I didn't realize this was the "PS3 and 360 fanboys hold hands, sing, dance and generally spout off nonsense while bashing people who like to game on more than one system" thread.

Seriously, just cause it doesn't suit your style of play, doesn't mean that someone who likes it is uneducated or a kid. There are plenty of people, especially juding by the sales the you fanboys seem to love so much, that enjoy what the wii provides for them, a casual gaming experience that they do not have to invest a lot of time in. There is a reason that the Wii is number one, and that's because they cater to a much larger, less elitest audience.

Nintendo is a machine that can satisfy the needs of casual players. Wii games can be fun, but a more hardcore gamer will be bored after a while. I had a Wii and played only Mario Kart Wii most of the time. Nintendo should accept that the Wii cannot satisfy hardcore gamers and gamers used to next-gen gaming. If Nintendo wants to stay competitive, it needs to launch a next-gen console soon and make another Zelda game.
Xsnipe2killX
Since when is 480p next gen graphics. I saw the wii in action at my friends house on a 50 inch tv and it looks awlfull. NO TY!

Again, you guys are missing the point. Nintendo doesn't need to bow out. They aren't losing anything. Nintendo is on a completely different level because they are offering a completely different product. On top of that, they have shown themselves to be quite capable of detereming what their market wants; it's the reason they have sold so many consoles with both the Wii and the DS.
Let me put this as simple as I can: Not liking something does not mean that it has to change. Nintendo is not the one with the problem. They like their machine and are happy with it. Their fans love their wii and are happy with it. People spouting off that Nintendo needs to bow out and just focus on software have no idea what they are talking about. While it may not be on par technically with the rest of this generations consoles, they have shown far and away that when it comes to getting their product into people's homes, they are second to no one.
Specifically @Notafanboy - The argument is not hollow. Nintendo does not need to stay competitive because the audiences are different. If this were a direct competition, Nintendo wins in the only categories that companies care about... Sales and the bottom line.

It may be cheap but when you've got nothing to play on it, that 200 bucks starts to look like it'd be suited elsewhere. I don't want my game console to tell me I'm fat and I need to work out, my girlfriend does that already.
WildfireFox
I regret buying my Wii on launch day.
It hasn't amounted to very much

The Wii has 7-8 games that most pure gamers would find to be fun. The PS3 has one game that pure gamers are excited about. As a single system it's ok for about 6 months and then you'll need more or if you have a life you'll be just fine.
Ok,I'm outta here. I need to finish Saints Row 2 so I can be ready for the new GTA IV DLC!

I'm on the fence as I post, However that isn't the wii purchase fence. It's the upcoming PS3 games purchasing fence. So many great games coming to the PS3 and not a cent to spare for the Wii. My $200 can better be spent on Operation flashpoint:Dragon Rising, MAG, Heavy Rain, The Last Guardian, COD4:MW2, Drake 2 and Assasin's Creed.
The fence isn't so much for which games I want to purchase so much as the fence I have to jump in order to get away from my wife who'll be pissed at me spending so much cash on all those games.
