It might not be in the form of a wedding announcement, but I guess it will have to do. Lionhead Studios has officially announced that Fable III will ascend the throne in Holiday 2010.
The announcement was made during GamesCom, and while the existence (and inevitability) of a follow-up to Fable II, the best selling RPG on the Xbox 360, have been assumed for awhile, this is the first official word to come from the game’s developer.
Over the past few weeks, Lionhead’s official website has featured prominent historical figures including Abraham Lincoln, Che Guevara and Alexander the Great, each of which was accompanied by a personal quote representing each of their particular philosophies on power, revolution, and strife. The teaser campaign was meant to show the disparate paths that leaders throughout history have taken to obtain and maintain power.
This very idea sits at the heart of Fable III, as players will have to face a kingdom in peril, and make the necessary choices to ensure its survival. Fable creator Peter Molyneux said in an official statement:
“Though I can’t give too much away right now, players should expect to have to make much tougher choices with far wider consequences than ever before in Albion — and with many more interactive adventure elements.”
The game takes place 50 years after the events of Fable II, and players assume the role of the either the son or the daughter of that game’s hero. As the king or queen, it will be up to players to decide whether their kingdom will crumble or thrive.
Any preliminary thoughts on Fable III?

So I was thinking of picking up Fable 2, do I need to play Fable 1 to follow the story?
Warheart1188
It would be cool if they incorporated things that dealt with your Fable II character, kinda like what Mass Effect 2 is doing, in a sense. You know, like the history of Albion and stuff that happened with your character in FII. Fable III sounds awesome. Coming way sooner than expected.

I thought M$ didn't announce games until they are a couple of months away from release? Oh well, more broken promises from Peter.

Well, I thought that the generic, carbon-copy women we get to choose to marry were pretty dull. I quickly decided to end her miserable existence, but I found out I couldn't do that with my kid. WTF? I can kill my wife in the game, but not my kid? You know he's going to grow up hating me with a venomous rage that will boil and fester in him until he grows up to be a man. He will then hunt me down and kill me for dispatching his mother. Why not let us be a SMART evil villain and get the kid out of the way while he's still harmless?
And while on the subject, why can't I marry my dog?!! He's more loyal to me than any NPC, plus, he's helped me out throughout the game and doesn t whine, bitch and complain when I'm not home all the time.
Freedom, my arse, Mr. Molyneux!

P.S.- Thank you, Yahtzee for pointing that out to us.

Sounds great i loved every minute of Fable II and i expect lots more from Fable III. I wonder if Project Natal will be used at all? Maybe it will be used to interact with people that would be sweet, but it could be impossible. Maybe if only really important characters could interact with you using Natal.

YAY!! i loved fable 1 & 2! i just hope they make the combat a lot harder this time. Fable 2 has some stuff from fable 1 but fable 2 takes place like 500 years or 1000 years after the first game or somthing like that.. but there is some small stuff in fable 2 from fable 1 but you will hardly notice it. and it wont effect u at all in fable 2.

Two things sprung into mind when I heard about this.
1) I'm a little disappointed that the whole thing with the revolutionaries was leading into Fable3. I'd rather hear about the game first, then the theme. Not the other way around. But I guess it was good marketing.
2) I'll seriously be watching the reviews for this game. When I played Fable2, I loved every moment of it. But no review prepared me for what happened at the end. It was that final scene that kinda made me resent the game a bit. I seriously spent hours building up my character so he'd be strong enough to face whatever the Spire could throw at him. But then I get there it was basically "Press A to win game."
I'm one of those morons still playing Red Faction on the hardest difficulty setting. I like my games to be difficult - or at least have a reasonable difficulty curve. Fable2 failed me in that respect.
I'll have my eye on Fable3. But where it stands right now, I'd probably wait for a price drop to buy it.

Will it have a real co-op this time?

I could not stand playing the first Fable or the Lost Chapters "sequel/expansion", but I loved the second game and now I can't wait for the third game. Too me it was a lot more than to it than the sum of its part, though not as complex and intricate as Fallout 3, which made for a simplier, and too me, better game. Is it a better RPG than Fallout 3, no, not by a long shot, but its simplicity made for a superior game.

I am as excited as I should be for a game most likely not for my console, but I still have my fingers crossed that Lionhead decides to make this game multi-platform. Seeing in the past that they have stuck with Microsoft, my hopes are wavered... Nonetheless, I would love to see Fable III on our favorite current-generation Sony console.
Scottydsntknow
will the game actually work right? will I have to wait 5 months for a patch? will it always say "buy furniture to increase the value of this house"?

"Fable 3 - complete with interactive boy/girls you converse with yourself with the power of Natal"
Whatever.

Fable 2 was a pretty good and fun game. It was not a best game of the year like the people at x-play put it. I will pick this up but i won't be as hyped as i am with Modern Warfare 2, Uncharted 2 or Fallout New Vegas.
ddc2494
so they wont fix the problems with Fable 2?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki /Fable_II#Technical_Issues
lol typical microsoft, making you pay for garbage they KNOW will have problems haha. Why a 2010 release? so it will get slaughtered by the Sony exclusives?!
ddc2494
cmon M$ these 360 fanboys have been loyal to you despite your defective ass system, and your waves of flops, give these people what they deserve, a GOOD bug-free game.
