Warner Bros Says This Is Vegas Not Canceled

Warner Bros. has been quiet about plans for Midway Games since the acquisition. One game in particular, however, even Midway had been keeping quiet about -- the open-world, Sin City-set This Is Vegas. Confusion over the proejct's future gained steam today after ActionTrip reported online retailers were saying This Is Vegas was canceled and pre-orders were being refunded.

Has This Is Vegas been canceled? No, according to its new owner, Warner Bros.

"This is Vegas has not been cancelled," said a Warner Bros. spokesperson in a brief e-mail to me this afternoon. "The game is currently in production."

No other details about This Is Vegas are available, but for the moment, This Is Vegas remains in development at Seattle-based Surreal Software. This Is Vegas would be the studio's first foray into this console generation. Previously, Surreal was praised for their work on The Suffering.

The Suffering would be a kickass game to bring to the Xbox360 with a sequel or some kind of reimagining.

My curiosity is piqued. Are there any details about the gameplay other than "open world Las Vegas?" Is this game going to be a GTAIV clone set in a different city or is it going for something more?

This game and "Ride To Hell" have both been on my list. All the E3 news on the same five games for hours and no coverage of "This Is Vegas".

I hope it's still on track for release this fall!

I think there is a hesitation on the big studios part to put out a video game with nudity. They have been on the fence over there about including nudity even at the studio- but I think nudity is a must for this game. They are also in long deliberations with the ESRB trying to keep it an M vs AO hence the delays.

This game could be alot worse. It could be:

    This Is Cleveland
    This Is Des Moine
    This Is Fort Wayne
    This Is Montana
    This Is Akron
    This Is Chattanooga
    This Is Barstow
    This Is Erie
    This Is Amarillo
    This Is Medford
    This Is Cape Cod
    This Is Richmond
    etc.

*Note: Nothing against those cities, but those games would be boring.

i always thought this game was a fail from the get-go. i mean, they seriously have to put in a lot of effort in order to even make it decent as an open world game. they probably won't.

Back during E3, wouldn't it have been cool for G4 to contact the devs and see what was up with the game instaed of giving us Bioshock 2 news every other day? Yeah, yeah, I know,...we need more Fallout3 news. How about some journalism and try and find out what's up with "Ride To Hell". Or maybe instead of the same old PS3 price news we can find out who owns the rights to Blaster Master or Body Harvest and see if an updated version could come out any time this generation.

I know most of you are just dying for more Madden 10 news, but me I'd like something fresh and different.
