President Obama is awesome; even though he wore Mom-jeans to throw out the first pitch at a ball game, will turn the United States into Soviet Russia in 1974, and wants to destroy video games for everyone, He's still the coolest president we've ever had, face it. Here's what Big O said about games in a speech in New York on Thursday:
"To parents, we can’t tell our kids to do well in school and fail to support them when they get home. For our kids to excel, we must accept our own responsibilities. That means putting away the Xbox and putting our kids to bed at a reasonable hour. It means attending those parent-teacher conferences, reading to our kids, and helping them with their homework..."
These statements echo Obama's long-held positions on both video games and bed-times, but he hadn't called out Microsoft's products by name until this speech. Microsoft responded thusly to the Associated Press:
"We agree with President Obama that it’s a time for families to work together so that kids use media in ways that are safe, healthy and balanced. Xbox 360 is the only console gaming system that has a timer feature allowing parents to set time limits for their kids, as well as parent controls to enable parents to set limits on what their kids are playing and watching.L
Wow! This war-of-words is really heating up, eh? It's like when The Hulk and Andre the Giant used to battle it out in the squared circle!
Here's my take on the matter: If you're a follower of TheFeed, you already know that the Obama family owns a Wii, so his anti-Xbox rhetoric is clearly console war fanboyism. As a hardcore gamer, Obama is angry that The Conduit didn't sell that well, so he's taking it out on those smug Xboxers. Seriously, as a parent and a gamer, I don't see what the big deal is. Parents should be more accountable for their kids. Let me give you an example:
I was at the mall yesterday letting my son run around in the playplace. There was another couple there with their two kids. The mother keep constantly telling the oldest of her two boys to calm down, and made the comment under her breath that she, "needed to get that boy some Ridilan."
So what's the first thing they did after they left the playplace? They bought their kids some candy.

The big O is the greatest Communist on the planet! Way to OWN 2 of the major car company's, most of the banks and trying to own the health care system. What else can he do?? oh, gaming, lets own that too so we can tell others how to play. GG

I'm hoping this is a satirical media spin because that SAME quote from obama is the SAME quote that has been on the feed about 7 or 8 times since what like back in September of 08?
how many times can you actually spin this thing?

Obama suckered all of us didn't he ? He needs to put down the fake check book if you ask me. After he " saves " us all with his spending, our tax percentage is going to hit 52% and fast. That is more than France and Canada.
This guy say's all the right things but what he really does is just getting f'n scary.
This is just my opinion.

I don't see the problem with what he said. He is not attacking the X-box specifically. He just sights it as an example. That's what you get when you know you're popular. What he said is also true. Parents do need to quit letting consoles babysit their children and become an active part of their lives. There is nothing communist about what he said. This is nothing but bad journalism. Or a bad joke.

I don't see this as anti-gaming rhetoric as it is actually pro-parenting. He just says to put the [gaming console] away at a reasonable hour. Then bring it back out the next morning.
It's poor parenting to let your kids play CoD until 1am. But it's not much better to be playing a console in front of them and telling them they're never allowed to touch it ever.

"That means putting away the Xbox and putting our kids to bed at a reasonable hour."
Obama was a smooth talking candidate and is a smooth talking President. And like any politican, understand little about what he is talking about. Like Xbox said, there is a parental system built into the XBOX 360, just this system was was probably the first one he thought of (Even though he owns a Wii). And please tell us what a reasonable hour to bed is?
Most research shows that teens (a large percent of those playing on the XBox) have a different sleep cycle, and would benefit from a later start to the school day. But I don't hear Obama talking about this... because it would kill his support with the teacher's unions.
This country is in for a rough few years. We may have just elected the wolf in sheep's clothing (so to speak)... but hey, can't get worse than Bush, can it?

For the first time ever, I agree with Obama. Even though I don't really care for schoolwork, it's time that parents started controlling they're kids, and when they play video games. They don't need to be playing their xbox's constantly.
If this is done, I can stop getting cussed out by 12 year olds every time I play Halo

maybe your barely informed, but some of us gamers are concerned with global politics as it is reality. maybe Obama is worry that most Americans are turning in to fat tv watcher that let every one do every thing for us. i also cant stand the way schools are so sport orientated instead of science math and all the other more important subjects. socialism no its Republicanism they have there hands so deep in the health care that they can not stand to think about losing all that money, just like in renewable resources. republicans don't want to change anything because it with affect there pockets. and obama was not ragging on xbox it just like 10 years ago everyone referred "nintendo" as all games.
Razordave69
This is typical of Obama. He will make a passing comment about his concerns about and the next thing you know the government is running it. Banks and automakers were first. Health care is in his sights. I know I can't wait to see what our first government designed GM product looks like. Just wait till you see what games he says are good for us and which aren't.
I have four kids and I do not my President telling me when it is a good time for them to do homework vs. playing games. I have that taken care of.
