Braid

Jonathan Blow, the creator of art-platformer Braid for the 360 and PC recently posted a job listing on his site for looking for 3D Environment Concept Artist to work on his next game.

In an interview with yours truly, Blow said he's working on a 3D game that's "twice the budget of Braid." The job posting describes the new project thusly: "a puzzle-exploration game that is philosophical, and quiet, and is being made for reasons other than crass profit motive.”

The help-wanted ad specifically states that applications not have a portfolio containing "Girls With Big Tits; Barbarians Wielding Axes, Covered in Blood; Aliens; Space Ships; Gangsters Getting Shot in the Face; Orcs; Giant Robots; and, of course, Postapocalyptic Wastelands."

I can totally get behind these criteria... but man, seeing the tropes of the mainstream game industry all laid out in a neat little list sure makes them seem ridiculous, right?

If it's anything as amazing as Braid was, it'll be a day 1 purchase for me. It's nice to see someone who makes clever, deep, fun games for the love of it, even if he is a snide prick.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Braid, probably the best game of last year for me, but Blow is just an arrogant prick at times. I'll definitely buy this new game on the spot, but Blow, just keep your mouth shut.
Also, Blow(Like he'll actually read this) why don't you just tell us what the ending of Braid actually was, instead of just saying, "I don't know where people got the idea of the atomic bomb," after numerous quotes and references to the atomic bomb and project were made in the game . . .

I would buy Braid if it were $5. I don't think it is worth $15. After getting a job that pays $7.50 an hour, and how hard the job is, I wouldn't work for 2 hours to buy this game. Heheh. ^-^

I would pay $60 for Braid! I appreciate the art that is Braid. Can't wait for the next game. Atleast I know the next game is not a shooter; it's something unique.

He's only looking for someone who has had years of full-time experience... Sounds pretty close-minded to me, not even accepting sample work.

To anybody who says that Braid is not worth the $15.00 price point.I feel Braid was worth every penny more so than compare the value of most $60.00 games.I loved everything about Braid.Every thing from level design to beautiful 2d watercolored graphics. This game deserves to be recognized like Okami as an artform.I can't only imagine what kind of other creativity these developers have in store for us with a bigger budget.

I almost won Braid on 1 vs 100 on saturday night but my gf told me an answer that she "knew" was right and it wasn't. The "one" got the answer wrong as well and all 10 remaining people got Braid and 160 MS points. I wasn't very pleased, LOL.
