G4TV

Greetings and Salutations Feed readers! My name is Eugene Morton, Interactive Producer for Attack of the Show and I've come to drop some knowledge, and possibly a bit of ignorance, about what I do to help make G4tv.com the greatest website known to humankind (the Martians are pretty fond of the site as well, or so I hear). Take a moment from your busy day and giver ear.

Eugene Morton Meet TheFeed

Interview: Eugene Morton - Interactive Producer, Attack of the Show!
By: Jeff Kanjanapangka

Jeff: What type of Gamer are you?

Eugene: I'd say I'm a hardcore gamer, even though I don't have as much time as I used to to play games. I especially love third person action adventure games and open world games like GTA IV.

Jeff: Why do you like those kinds of games?

Eugene: I grew up in Inglewood, CA, where it wasn't really safe outdoors, at least at the time. Thanks to Magic Johnson investing a lot of money into the community and creating jobs, things are different now. Anyway, I love exploring open world environments, because as a kid, I really couldn't explore outside my front door. It was a Blood neighborhood and I used to play videogames on the floor (this was when drive-by shootings were more commonplace), because I was afraid of a stray bullet hitting me. Every time my dad and I hung out, it was always in another part of town. My friends and I would get together and go somewhere else nicer, because things in Inglewood kind of sucked at the time. Hell, I can still remember being late to high school one morning, because S.W.A.T. was outside my house preparing a raid on my next door neighbor. It wasn't like that all the time and I grew up in a nice house, but things were bad in the late 80s and early 90s. I hated middle school, but it sucked not being able to school for a month and half because of the riots. So, I guess being able to roam around in a giant city and have an adventure that way, kind of allows me to do what I couldn't when I was younger.

Jeff: How'd you get to G4?

Eugene: I really busted my ass in college. I went to Santa Monica College for two years, because I was poor, before transferring to Loyola Marymount University, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude. I also worked as an intern at a big advertising agency (that won't be named here) in the Central Intelligence department. After that, I took some time off to just relax and worked as a game tester at Activision, mostly for kicks. That set me up to get the job. After quitting Activision, I asked a friend who had interned here if he knew anyone and his old boss, an X-Play legend, got me the interview.

Jeff: Top 5 Games?

Eugene: Kagero: Deception II, Shadow of Rome, GTA IV, Fallout 3, Tekken IV.

Jeff: When did you first fall in love?

Eugene: The first time I ever thought I was really in love it was at a three day music festival in Toledo, Ohio called the Gathering of the Juggalos. We fooled around a bit, but she wasn't that into me until her friend started paying attention to me. On the last night, a riot erupted during the final concert (I still don't know the reason why) and I chose to seek out the root of the chaos instead of leaving with her right away. By the time I got back to the rear of the convention center, which had gone total ape s#*t by then, she was gone. I swear that I got off the airplane in Los Angeles and I could still smell her perfume. I'm glad we didn't get married or anything. It was for the best.

Jeff: Favorite gaming platform?

Eugene: I've owned more games for the NES than any other console, but I'd have to say my favorite is the Xbox 360, because it has such a large number of great games and Xbox Live is amazing.

Jeff: Emotionally invested in videogames?

Eugene: When Resident Evil 2 was over, it still left me paranoid for a week after. It was if I had actually survived a zombie infested city.

Jeff: Pearls of Wisdom?

Eugene: Introspection is necessary to lead a decent life, but don't let it lead to unnecessary self doubt. Also, one of the keys to happiness in life is loving what you do for a living.

Jeff: What do you want your legacy to be?

Eugene: I want to be remembered for the art I'm creating now and will create in the future.

Jeff: Finally, the real question at hand, the original or prequel Star Wars
trilogy?

Eugene: O.G. trilogy all the way, although the fight between Darth Sidious and Yoda in episode III is bad ass.

Jeff: How will it all end?

Eugene: Hopefully, in my sleep, after rousing sexual congress with a woman who is not my wife.
