In just a few short weeks, NFL training camps will open and the dreaded back-to-school sales will start popping up (always hated that as a kid). Which means that it's once again time for Madden-mania and its slightly-less-popular incarnation, NCAA-anticipation. (NCAA's only higher on the charts because it comes out first.)

Here's what Amazon.com customers can't wait to play on their PS3s. For reference, that Arkham Asylum CE is about $90, and the Watchmen package includes the previously download-only game and the Blu-ray movie.

Amazon.com's Top PlayStation 3 Pre-Orders, as of 3:15PM, 7/10/2009

  1. NCAA Football 10
  2. Madden NFL 10
  3. Batman: Arkham Asylum
  4. Batman: Arkham Asylum Collector's Edition
  5. King of Fighters XII
  6. Wolfenstein
  7. G-Force
  8. Watchmen: The End is Nigh The Complete Experience
  9. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
  10. Rock Band: Country Track Pack

Opinion solicitation time: Does a collector's edition make sense for a game that's not a sequel? What's the most you would pay for a CE, and what would it have to include? Are you going to be participating in an online Madden league this year? How terrible is the G.I. Joe movie going to be?

I don't like sports games, so I'll pass (as usual) on the Madden. Batman is a definite buy for me. CE's are alright if you're REALLY into the particular game/character. Don't know if it's worth an extra $30 though. Give it a couple months and I'll be able to buy a CE at Gamestop for the price of just the game lol!

G.I. Joe is going to suck....hard. That's my prediction.

sometimes i dig having collectors editions or limited editions if it has exceptional value either its a soundtrack. behind the scene videos. yet i can't stand when they have replicas or trinkets that aren't worth being included-if you get giveaways at conventions you'll know how shoddy those things are. i'm pointing at the resident evil collectors edition. thank you very much for the crappy carry on bag. chris plastic toy figure and organization patch. blech.

i want to get the batman arkham asylum collectors edition for the doctors journal but the rest of it seems like a piece of giant trash. i'd want a replica of an actual steel batarang but i'm sure it'll be more like a plastic one that can't fly. its like the amazon exclusive slimer edition of ghostbusters you get a tiny minature slimer cast. blech

marlon wayans and metal suits? yep its going to suck hard. it doesn't help either the director who made van helsing was fired. so you know its gonna be a piece of crap that should go straight to video like dragonball evolution did.

I don't usually bother with Collector's Editions, but sometimes they're worth it. Fallout 3, for example, was a great CE. Vault Boy bobble head? Awesome. Replica Fallout lunchbox? Also awesome. Art book? Not as cool as the bobble head, but still sits proudly on my dvd shelf.

The Watchmen complete experience is a great value and a smart idea. They're going to sell a lot more video games with this bundle than they otherwise would have. And who in their right mind would miss out on the Watchmen blu-ray? I'm looking at all those people who gave Transformers 2 their money and let Watchmen flounder.

Madden better step it up from last years lackluster outing. I know several people who are skipping Madden entirely and going with NCAA.

G.I. Joe, which they should have just called "Tech Force" or "Hasbro Trying to Emulate the Success of Transformers" rather than G.I. Joe, will be only slightly better than everyone thinks it's going to be, due mostly to the law of diminishing expectations.
