Miyamoto: Super Mario Galaxy 2 For "Veteran" Gamers

Will Super Mario Galaxy 2 be "hardcore"? In the latest issue of Nintendo Power, Shigeru Miyamoto shared the following:

"I do believe that there is a lot here to appeal to the more veteran and more experienced gamers, and I think it’s a title that they will obviously enjoy, but I really took it into consideration and tried to do our best to create a game that’s accessible to new gamers as well. And, you know, we also built it with consideration that we believe that people who played through the first Mario Galaxy have become better players."

I don't think the opening statement about "veteran and more experienced gamers" is that major, honestly. Super Mario Galaxy had a ton of crossover appeal with the "hardcore" crowd and I expect the sequel to be no different. This reads as a carefully placed nod to those "veteran" gamers.

The bit about Nintendo taking into consideration the fact that players may have gotten better after playing the first Super Mario Galaxy, however, is interesting. Could this represent the beginning of the Wii growing up with its audience? Honestly, I would just take more Mario Galaxy, but anything that adds depth and replayability is alright by me.

Besides Yoshi, what would you like to see in Super Mario Galaxy 2?

-I want to see the REAL Koopa Kids.
-I want a race go-karts in the same world I run around in.
-I want to see Mario moon the camera.
-I want a 3D-glasses mode.
-I want to yank Mario's face around again like in Mario 64.
-I want wither a REAL 2-player mode or a Co-op mode (like RE5).
-I want to see what Wart's been up to after all this time.
-I want less robot bosses.
-I want less pastel levels.
-I want to see my Mii head on Mario's body, stomping on Wiggler.
-I want better winter levels. Why is it that the tropical areas look like sweet island resorts, but the winter levels look like CRAP? I live in WA state and I wanna see: snow covered pine trees, bears, ski lifts, cabins, footprints in the snow to follow and FOREST LEVELS!!!

You do NOT want to see me get ugly...

Hm, interesting. Maybe not hardcore but more advanced and yeah, Yoshi should bust out. He's America's negligence dinosaur we have left in this world, of course we need him! LOL!!! :) Oh yeah, and bring the cousins as well too, black, red, blue, pink, the whole bang. Yoshi's World is about to get a twist baby.

You know, I don't know hardcore they can go, I don't. But I do hope they can raise the level in this game, I ain't asking much or a lot but add a few dimensions towards playability and like you said Bleahy, replayability. And my boy Luigi, I want him to whack Mario already...hey, Miyamoto said hardcore, they can raise the level and add alternate endings. Geez, movies are doing it and some games as well, duh!!! LOL!!! :)

I am looking forward to this one, should be interesting that's for sure, :)

i think people give themselves that title and dont deserve it.
im a gamer and have been for a long long time, but i dont consider myself a veteren gamer.
so tell me all you 'veterens' out there, what makes you a 'vet'?

I would like to see some better "boss battles". Super Mario Galaxy 1 had some incredibly underwhelming boss fights. Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3 had some pretty hectic boss fights and the results were always satisfying. I hope they can translate this better into Mario's newest outing.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 had short in the game play but i still love it. i loved the ices and fire levels they should have more of those. On the next one i would like to see new and more enemies, i don't want to beat everything with one life i expect to die most times and that make its a more satisfying game. also they need bigger levels that i can spend hours in exploring not lots of small ones and take longer and a long adventure getting one star. and most importantly have a bigger hub world than SMG1 it was so small and you cant do anything there nothing to explore. Super Mario Sunshine had a lot to do and see. they need to make it bigger and put more hidden stars and maybe a few mini games like the manta ray race one was fun. oh and they need to have a lot of Mario suits line in SMB3 there was a lot and hidden ones the statue, frog, and boot suits were great! then need more of those in SMG2. then Super Mario Galaxy 2 would become the greatest game ever.

I had to quit playing the orginal. I couldn't get past one level >_< soooo fruatrating!!

Oh well. it's been a whilee. Maybe I should bust it out just to see.

Honestly, I don't care what's in the new game as long as there are quite a few changes and its not the exact same game with slightly new environments. I want some good changes, and I'll be happy. And about that last statement, does he mean the game will be harder than the first? I guess we'll have to wait and see.

i want a real 2 player mode
i want luigi to be playable not just as an extra but an option
i want wario to have something to do with the game like he teamed up with bowser
i want fludd back
i want the real koopa kids instead of bowser jr(dont get me wrong hes awesome but the originals are better)
i want to be able to steal the wand after you defeat a kamek.
