Undoubtedly, there are quite a few gamers out there who would love to see Sony drop the price of the PlayStation 3, if only to prove that analysts can still make solid predictions every now and then. Well, it seems gamers aren't the only ones hoping Sony's heart (as well as its install base) grows three sizes sometime soon.
In a recent interview with CVG, publisher Tecmo Koei's CEO Kenji Matsubara reveals that he's been consistently pressing Sony for a "welcomed" PS3 price drop for some time now.
However, Matsubara explains that while a price cut would obviously expand the PS3 market, "It's Sony's strategy, and I don't know their cost structure. Sony introduced cutting-edge technology in the PS3, that's why people in the industry accept that the PS3 cost is so high, but we'd welcome a price cut."
Matsubara's is an unsurprising position, but it's also one that reflects the feelings of most gamers who have yet to make the PS3 plunge strictly because of its price point. A price drop is coming sooner rather than later, so now it's really just a waiting game to see when exactly Sony wants its hardware sales to skyrocket.

Ahh leave it to G4 to add their 'educated' spin on everything. Tecmo didn't implore anything. They simply stated, when they speak with Sony, they indicate that they'd like to see a price cut. However, the further go on to elaborate and say, the have absolutely no idea what Sony's pricing or marketing situation is. Therefore, no demands, or flamboyant threats. They simply stated, it'd be nice.
Don't add words to their statements, just makes you folks look more stupid than usual.

How does "a price cut would be welcomed" get turned into being "implored"?

yeah, what those two guys ahead of me said!!

Even if the PS3 sells fewer systems every month, what they do sell is quite a lot of systems for how much it costs. That's money they would lose if they lowered the system cost. They are losing so much already for each system they sell. I just don't see them leaving that cash on the table.

There isn't a week that goes by without some fairy tale about a PS3 price cut.

He is right and managed to state it in a rational manner, unlike that baby from Activision.

G4 is one of the most bias video game website ever. There is nothing wrong with people who prefer xbox360 over the ps3 but the problem lies when the purpose of the feed is provide us with news not opinions. Everyday, wanna be journalist on G4 take unnecessary shots at ps3. I don't understand it and I will probably never will. All this negativity towards ps3 is unjust and bias. I bet every single of there writers had a ps1 and ps2 and turn their back on them. As a consumer, my loyalty is with Sony and their products. As journalist, maybe g4 staff can try to be professional for once and keep their opinions to themselves.

Sony and PS3 just fails. Why do companies still support it? It sucks in every way. They have nearly non-existent sales, Sony lost billions of dollars, PSN sucks, no good games, PSP go sucks, overprice piece of crap for $250. rofl. sony u the worst hardware maker ever.
makaveli29
g4 is the Microsoft love machine using propaganda tactics. Is Bill Gates signing your paychecks? PS3 and 360 are great systems. Please stop this nonsense.
jackfrost118
why all the hostility? this isn't a "smear" PS3 article. I would actually support a price cut in BOTH systems. I own a 360 (love it) but would like to buy a PS3 too, if they dropped the price some.

Somebody needs to call the Waaaaaaambulance here ! Seriously ! So a few of us have a PS3, woo hoo, in reality they still need to sell alot more. Ifsoftware sales is where the money is made then they need to move more units. I'm not sure how waiting for the hardware costs to level is helping them at all. They need to move units and sell alot of games.

Companies HAVE to support the PS3 for the most part since no one know how long their 360 will be functional or out for repairs. There I just wanted to be as childish as you. Have you ever played a PS3? By saying No good games I would bet you haven't. No matter what your preference each console has always had some good games and this go around all are laden with a plethora of great games. Also EVERYONE is losing money right now that is why it is called a recession.

I have both PS3 and the 360. What I do not understand is that everyone says that the PS3 cost alot. Well after buying wireless, extra controller, 2 play and charge batteries, and also a $50 gold member for the 360. I would have to say even when I did buy an extra conller for my PS3 it was less then the 360. So, in the long run the PS3 cost less then the 360.

not to mention, that bestbuy has an awesome PS3 bundle starting Sunday.

There is not a single person that every wants something for the good of a company. The only people who want price cuts are the bastards who want to see Sony go under, which is probably what would happen if Sony made a price cut. But I don't think that is what Techmo Koei wants, just the Feed trolls. As for SOME people who think that Sony&PS3 suck name ONE thing that Sony's console couldn't do if they wanted to. As silence fills the room and life goes on there isn't a DAMN thing Microsoft could do that Sony couldn't manage not a single game or feature. Why hasn't Sony copied MS at every turn? Probably because they have credibility, a little something MS can't buy with the largest piles of cash.

People like you are the reason I still like this website!!
Tmidiman
Why are people acting like sony has only sold 100 systems? there are millions of PS3 systems out there that have been purchased. So what if it hasn't sold the most? And yes even though there are no games that I like on the system there are more than 20 million people who are happy with it and over 100k that buy a new one every month. All this crying and fighting over numbers. The bashers and the whinners need to chill out.
The system could be sold for $1 and it still is what it is.
IcemanMX
At this point, I would only be surprised if someone outside Sony thinks that the PS3 should maintain its current price or (dare I say) increase the price.

@makaveli29 It's a blog genius. It's supposed to be opinionated. It's also supposed to have idiotic comments, so thank you for yours.
