Welcome to "Morning Hangover" -- an excellent way to start your day with the crew at TheFeed...no matter what you're recovering from. Every morning you'll hear musings from two of TheFeed's editors and have the chance to share  your thoughts on what's going on in the gaming world. So buckle up, wipe the barbecue sauce off of your face, and keep reading!

Fight Night Round 4

Raymond Padilla: I played a bunch of Fight Night Round 4 over the weekend. As a boxing video game, it's pretty excellent. As a boxing simulation, it's a bit lacking. I love the actual sport and I'd love to see the most accurate simulation possible, but certain aspects of the game are altered in order to make it more appealing to the masses. For example, in a couple of heavyweight bouts I played, my fighters averaged well over 150 punches per round. Anyone that watches the sport knows that heavyweights do not throw leather at a rate that high; the norm for that weight class is well under 100. Being able to let your fists fly like that makes for a more enjoyable time, but that's not what the actual sport is like. The same goes for the new emphasis on counterpunching. Counters are way too powerful in Fight Night Round 4. It's an interesting and fun game mechanic, but doesn't accurately reflect the sport. I totally understand that the features I'm looking for don't appeal to a mass audience, but as a boxing fan, I'll keep dreaming.

Rolando 2

Patrick Klepek: I'd intended to spend the weekend busting some ghosts, but a surprise jaunt down to San Diego meant I actually spent the three day holiday sitting by the pool, throwing back beers and eating copious amounts of barbecue. Not exactly a terrible to spend some time off, but my to-play list continues to rise higher and higher. I did, however, spend a few hours with Rolando 2, the sequel to ngmoco:)'s Loco Roco-inspired iPhone platformer. It's really, really good -- a vast improvement over the original, a game I was already in love with. What games did you play this weekend?

    Ray, would you want the damage system from FIght Night 3 with the punching mechanics of Fight Night 4, with a little more emphasis on stamina?

    Speaking of boxing, I still want to hear the story of the time R-Pad put a Gamespot employee in the hospital...

    @solidgameguy @RRODisBack It's either or for me. I enjoy both. The changes I'm looking for have more to do with conveying real-life boxing. I'd like weight classes to be more pronounced. I'd like a clinching system that can used for hit-and-hold tactics. A bunch of thins like that.

    @blindsideofthesun In good time. Keep bringing it up though!

    @Andrew Pfister Great. Now you let everyone win.

    ive been playing the hell out of fight night. right now i have 48 wins and 25 losses. i think that the counters arent supposed to be a strong knock u out power punch, its suppose to take ur opponents momentum and transfer it to u. i mean if this guys constantly throwing straight rights (like alot of people do 4 sum gay reason) u counter then u start the offense. and scotty sorry but theres no unlockable characters. gay i no.

    @zeke_a_leak Sure, but that's not how counters work in real life. A punch doesn't become more effective and powerful, simply because it's a counter. For example, a simple counter jab is way more useful in the game than it ought to be.

    ya i get wat ur saying. its not as realistic and exact as it could b but i think that its like a reward for countering, ur punch is stronger than it would normally b. if there was a specific counter button and u didnt have to dodge or block and hit back yourself then it shouldnt b as strong. its hard to counter on time and i think it should b stronger since it is so hard. wats ur fight record and wat do u play on

    @zeke_a_leak Right, it works as a fun game mechanic, but that's not what I want.

    R-Pad. Use your knowledge of boxing and your knowledge of video games and combine them! Tweak the settings to make it more realistic and upload that shiz. I think Fight Night Round 4 is stellar simply because of the online sharing component. My Arnold Schwarzenegger boxer is all I practically play with now and I'll be doing the Austrian Oak's career after I'm finished with Tyson's.

    @dragonburner Absolutely.

    @TheLittlePrince Ha! I really have no desire to enter into game design.

    I agree with every thing Ray is saying and hears what I think they should do to improve it.How about making the stamina gauge go down a little quicker in the heavyweights.If their stamina goes down quicker then the less punches will be thrown.If you watch a real heavyweight fight you'll notice that they take their time,they move in,do a 1-2 combination or so then back up.As for the counter punches how about taking a little bit of power out of those.They could probably do this via update.
