Review: I Got Next: A Documentary on the Fighting Game Scene

Curious about the fighting game tournament scene? You've seen gootecks on G4tv.com and X-Play (Balrog Tutorial, Pro Tips) and want to know more about why he does what he does? You'll need to check out I Got Next: A Documentary on the Fighting Game Scene, which looks at the growing Street Fighter IV competitive community. Granted, the players you'll see in this video have been playing since long before SFIV was released, but the spotlight is on SFIV and for good reason.

The movie will be premiering this Friday night at 8PM EST on UFragTV, streaming live and for free. Afterwards, there will be a live-streamed Q&A with Ryan "gootecks" Gutierrez, Justin Wong, and Mike Ross. The film was written, directed, and produced by Ian Cofino.

I've seen an early copy of the film and if you're at all interested in competitive gaming, fighting games, or Street Fighter IV you should check it out. At the very least, check out the trailer at the film's official site.

Because Street Fighter is more well known and played by more hardcore and average players alike. I am not saying iron fist is not a good game, there is more money to be made in street fighter games. Wait till they release another street fighter game or a darkstalkers. It will be all over Capcom is already starting to rule the world. I can't wait to see and own this movie. I bet there will be more footage at EVO 09

Street Fighter is the undisputed KING of 2d fighters, but I wish there was more press for the Virtua Fighter community, which is also a very large fighting community. Virtua Fighter is by far the biggest 3D fighter, strictly for hardcore fighters who are willing to understand the steep learning curve. There are a ton of competitions and I am still hopeful for Virtua Fighter 5R to make it stateside. I can't wait for this documentary.

Fighting games are a fond memory from earlier arcade years, and I'm happy that this film is highlighting that aspect of gaming culture...I still rmember when I was a teen and there were crowds of people around arcade machines of the latest versions of Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Capcom vs. the World, and Virtua Fighter...one of those arcade experiences that are sorely missed
