Is Michael Bay done with the Transformers franchise? Apparently that's what he made clear in a recent interview. According to Bay, he's had just about enough of the big-budget, CGI-centric epics:
"It's easy to go shoot an art movie in a winery in the South of France. But people have no idea how hard it is to create something like Transformers. They (the critics) review me before they've even seen the movie."
We can rip on Bay all we want, but if he wants to leave the big-budget scene and explore his artistic side, then more power to him. However, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen seems to be tracking extremely well, dominating early ticket sales with a 45% share (which beats Star Trek and the original Transformers in advance sales.) It's looking like the June 24th release of the sequel will be extremely huge. Will those huge numbers persuade Bay to possibly put aside his inner Francois Truffaut and get back to giant transforming robots amid tons of explosions? I tend to think so. However, according to Bay:
"After the three and a half years I've spent making these movies, I feel like I've had enough of the Transformers world. I need to do something totally divergent, something without any explosions."
"Without any explosions"? Don't kid yourself, Michael. You'll miss it too much! Those explosions will come to you in your dreams and say "Michael don't you think I'm cool anymore? How could you leave me? I can be artistic too! " Oh, and the payday that he will receive for Revenge of the Fallen, which is sure to exceed the percentage-based $75 million he raked-in for the first film, might also be a strong persuader.
What do you think? Is the Transformers franchise better off with or without Michael Bay? Love him or hate him, he did set the bar and defined the style and direction of the hugely successful first film, (and surefire money-making sequel.)

Finish the trilogy with Spielberg. And yes I say trilogy cuz we all know Hollywood aint going to let this not be a trilogy.
Warheart1188
It wouldn't be the same without him. Love him or hate him, he makes damn good action movies. The Rock, Bad Boys II, Pearl Harbor, Transformers and now part 2, just to name a few, are fantastic action flicks. Sure, they don't have all the substance we want out of movies but they satisfy our thirst for action, humor, and just plain awesomeness. I love a great film as much as any Roger Ebert but you gotta have the popcorn flicks.

I agree with Warheart1188 abou it not being the same. I think Bay gives the (Transformers) films a unique feel when you watch them. And yeah, I'll say this even though the second one hasn't even come out yet because I think the trailers speak enough for themselves. I'm not so sure how the francise will hold up if someone else takes the helm. Time will tell.

Micheal Bay is a repetitive hack.
Transformers = Armageddon + Independence Day + The Rock +robots
even the damn music is the same.
First transformers was bad, and sequels are always better right?
Bay leaving the Transformers franchise is almost as good of news as George Lucas never having anything to do with Star Wars ever again. Then bring on the sequels.
too far?? :P

I don't think he is leaving just to do art films. It seems like he wants out because he is tired of critics and whiney fan-boys judging his movies before they are even released, which I have to say more power to him. I would hate putting so much time and effort into something only to have people rip it apart months before they even see it.
The_Big_Badd
Bay is a crap director, but he did excellent with the first transformers movie, although that might have had more to do with Steven Speilberg. I say keep him on board

If Michael Bay does not return for the third film, maybe we can get Brett Ratner to replace him and that way we will hardly tell the difference.

If he is out for the third then I wont bother seeing it. as with every movie series, the original director leaves after the second movie, and then the third sucks majorly. (spider-man and x-men to name a few).
I like bay's movies, he needs to stick around for the last one and then he can do what ever he wants.

If the money is there he isn't going anywhere, besides noone can blow $#!% up like Bay...

OH NO! I would certainly miss him if he does leave.
But as long as the "new" director keeps the Transformers series they way Bay made it, I'll be a happy person!
Much rather have Bay though...

All you guys saying Transformers sucked need to shut up.
Transformers was a kick ass action movie and you know it.

if bay goes then replace him with spielberg.
MegaMark26
hmm i wonder how ridley scott would direct transformers 3 if he were director.
CrazyIvan62
Ya, if nothing else, he should at least finish off a trilogy that Hollywood is gonna make regardless of his decision.

OK KIDS the champ is here
