Desperate times call for desperate measures. Sony Ericsson's troubling efforts to remain relevant in the cell phone market has the company considering leveraging the strength of their PlayStation name for a phone again, according to a Financial Times interview with company president Hideki Komiyama.
A PlayStation branded-phone from Sony Ericsson phone "could happen," according to Komiyama, contradicting insider reports out of Sony earlier this year.
It's not the first time Sony Ericsson has pursued the PlayStation name for a new home, but the PlayStation side wasn't interested the last time around, according to a report from Mobile Today earlier this year. Several sources reportedly told the publication that Sony executives weren't confident a PlayStation-branded phone could provide the same experience as their other PlayStation devices.
Heck, while demonstrating an early version of their virtual world, Home, ex-Sony executive (now president of Atari) showed off a cell phone with the company's cross media bar (XMB) interface, currently featured on both PlayStation 3 and PSP. A PlayStation phone seems to make a lot of sense.
Let's say a PlayStation phone does happen. What do you want from it? Something as powerful as the PSP with phone capabilities, not unlike Apple's iPhone?
