Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has a few theories on why Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for DS sold so poorly in March. Apparently older DS gamers -- you know, people old enough to buy an M-rated game like Chinatown Wars -- are mostly women. Pachter told Gamasutra:
There are a few things wrong with this...where to begin? First off, it's pretty patronizing to older female gamers. I know numerous females in their 20s or 30s that own DS systems and love playing things like Chinatown Wars. I also know a lot of men in their 20s, 30s, and 40s that own DS consoles. So when Pachter says the older DS demographic is "largely female", I'm not buying it. To me, it's just a convenient excuse to cover up his prediction of Chinatown Wars selling 450,000 copies in its first month. That seemed "pretty clear" to him at the time and look how that turned out.
