Amazon.com wants its share of the used-games market. Considering that GameStop makes billions of dollars selling used games, it's easy to understand why.
The company is making things pretty easy for consumers to cash in on its previously-owned titles. Gamers select the title they want to trade in, print out a shipping sheet, ship off their games, and wait for a credit to appear in their Amazon account. For some people, it might be easier to drive to GameStop. For those with a printer and packing supplies, this process might be preferred.
Developers and publishers were concerned with all the revenue GameStop was taking in with used games. With companies like Amazon.com and Toys 'R Us entering the fray, the concern is sure to grow.
Although Amazon offers an easy process, the prices for trade-ins are pretty unimpressive after a cursory glance. It looks like you'd get more value for your used games selling them on eBay or waiting for a GameStop trade-in special. Unlike GameStop , you can use your trade-in credit to purchase lawnmowers and underwear. What do you think of Amazon's trade-in program? Will you give it a shot? Or will you stick with brick-and-mortar retailers?
