Konami pioneered the rhythm genre in Japan with their Bemani series of games including Guitar Freaks, Drum Mania, Beatmania, and Dance Dance Revolution. Last year, Konami filed a lawsuit against the makers of Rock Band and Guitar Hero for allegedly infringing upon Konami's patents dealing with fake plastic instruments.
The move was questionably timed as Bemani games have been around for a long time. Oh, wait? Didn't Konami release their own band game in the United States called Rock Revolution? That's right, they did! Oh, also, it sucks.
Now, Viacom is counter-suing Konami saying that a patent granted to them on December 2nd actually makes Rock Revolution's instruments all infringy (note: not a real word). Viacom is seeking to take Konami's game off of the market and could seek monetary compensation.
For the love of all that is good in gaming, please let Rock Band stay on the market. I could care less if Rock Revolution gets the ax.
