Here's a weird story: Reportedly, Michael Torchia, a fitness guru and trainer, has retained a "prominent law firm in Beverly Hills, California" to file a class action lawsuit against Nintendo over Wii Fit. His intention is "to have Nintendo pull their Wii games off the shelves until they make important changes to their products." Specifically, Torchia feels that there are not adequate warning labesl on Nintendo products. Torchia said:
"Nintendo is contributing to the epidemic of obesity. Young and old are putting away their gym clothes and shying away from going outdoors to play sports, because the addictive appeal to the Wii game products. Just as the tobacco companies created such a false image of their products and hid the potential dangers, so is Nintendo."
As yet, Torchia hasn't filed a suit.
Consider the number of warnings on Nintendo products, as well as how often we've all been told that Wii Fit is not an excercise program. I can't see how this lawsuit would have a chance. I wonder whether Torchia is even really going to file a lawsuit. I'm betting he just wants a little attention for his name, radio program and website in the press. Which I just gave him.
Damn.
