According to the Hollywood Reporter, the long-rumored remake/revival of legendary 80's TV series The A-Team will finally happen. Filling the director's chair will be Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, Narc) with Scott Free, the production company of legendary Hollywood siblings Ridley and Tony Scott to produce.
The culmination of a series of failed attempts and losses of directors, the film is slated for a release on June 11, 2010.
Okay, do we really need to go much further here? This is typically the part where I, as a self-respecting fanboy who holds all things 80's in sacred regard, will trash the latest attempt from Hollywood to revive a classic franchise. I will do no such thing!
...However, if I did, I would probably say something like "we will have to suffer through a cast of insufferable rappers and white douches indulging their own egos as they pretend to be the A-Team."
Or perhaps that "this will be yet another insipid, adolescent amalgam of post-Tarantino wisecracking thugs in a Fast and the Furious wet dream of hot rods, rims, roaring engines, and lesbians."
Or I might even say that "it is the symptom of a current trend so lacking in creativity, style, and heart, that it can do nothing except cannibalize material from a time when that was not the case."
Yes, it is a rant that has been made a million times. While there may be no shortage of reasons to make that rant, I will keep silent on my thoughts on this remake. Yup.
