Update: The Hollywood Reporter is now saying that Fox and Warner are close to a settlement in the legal drama over embattled film, Watchmen. The two parties met behind closed doors in the chambers of presiding Judge Gary Allen Feess on Monday. While exact details of the meeting were not released, Warner has stopped its attempts to move up the Jan. 20 date on which Judge Feess was set to deliver his decision on Fox's power to delay the release of the film. This could easily be construed as concrete evidence that the settlement may happen soon (before Jan. 20) and that the March 6, 2009 release date may be secure.
On Friday, we shed some light on a rumor reported by IESB that attorneys for Warner had dramatically changed their talking points regarding Warner's stance towards Fox's legal demands. Apparently, Warner was suddenly enthusiastic about moving towards a settlement that would be amicable to both parties. With the latest validation of this idea by the Hollywood Reporter, it seems like things indeed are moving forward. The optimism about the settlement could also have been detected when an all new ad for the film aired during the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday. The release date given at the end of the ad: March 6, 2009.
