Video game developer Neversoft has confirmed that it is not developing the next game in the long-running Tony Hawk franchise. Neversoft created the first nine Tony Hawk games, but president Joel Jewett confirmed that Tony Hawk Proving Ground was his company's last TH game. In an interview with the Great Falls Tribune, Jewett said, "It's probably best for the franchise ... it's time for someone else to add fresh ideas to it."
So who's going to be making the next Tony Hawk? Some speculate that the responsibility for reviving the franchise will fall on the shoulders of Robomodo, a new developer run by former EA Chicago and Studio Gigante heads. Robomodo has said it is working on "a high-profile extreme sports title for Activision Blizzard."
Neversoft's biggest franchise now is the Guitar Hero line of games. It took over the reins of the popular series from Harmonix after Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s and developed Guitar Hero III and Guitar Hero World Tour. The next big Neversoft music game: Guitar Hero: Metallica.
With many gamers regarding the Tony Hawk series as a once great line gone to seed, what can the next developer add to revitalize the series?
