According to 2K Games Global President Christoph Hartmann, we could see five sequels to mega-hit video game Bioshock. Hartmann went on to say that 2K wasn't going to "cash in" on the franchise.
“For Bioshock, because it’s so story driven, the question obviously arises: how long can you do it without turning into The Matrix?" Hartmann told mcvuk.com. "The first Matrix was great, the second one was weird and the third one, you thought: ‘Who [making this] is on crack and who isn’t?’"
“But, then again, look at Star Wars. It’s a fight between good and evil, just like Bioshock. If we spin it the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did... But we have to be careful not to cash in," Hartmann said.
Bioshock is, in my opinion, one of the most interesting games ever made, but I'm on the fence about sequels. I want to play more, but I wonder if it's even possible to keep up that level of quality for a six game series. I love the Bioshock universe, but not enough to want to play Big Daddy and Little Sister Cart Racing or Andrew Ryan's Xtreme Putting Challenge. Bioshock 2: Sea Of Dreams, the first sequel, is due on Xbox 360 and PS3 this year. We'll give you the date when we get it.
