Self-proclaimed originator of “post-punk laptop rap,” or Nerdcore as we like to call it here at G4, MC Lars will release his latest album, This Gigantic Robot Kills, on February 24th through Crappy Records. In anticipation of the new album, MC Lars has released The Green Christmas EP (also Crappy) which features the single “Guitar Hero Hero” featuring Parry Gripp from Nerf Herder on vocals and Paul Gilbert from Mr. Big on guitar. The single will also appear on This Gigantic Robot Kills, for which Lars’ own Horris Records teamed up with Jaret Reddick from Bowling for Soup's new imprint, Crappy Records, under Oglio to release and distribute.
This Gigantic Robot Kills is MC Lars’ first CD in three years and his second full-length studio album as MC Lars. The title of the album is a tribute to Wesley Willis, who MC Lars has been giving props (respect) to since his early recordings, stating Willis as a major influence upon him. The album features contributions from the Rondo Brothers, Mike Kennedy of Vision of Disorder, Pierre Bouviere of Simple Plan, MC Bat Commander of The Aquabats, Suburban Legends, Gabriel Saporta of Cobra Starship, Brett Anderson of The Donnas, MC Frontalot, Jesse Dangerously, Linus Dotson of Size 14 and Internet and gaming convention celeb, Jonathan Coulton.
You may recognize MC Lars from his appearance in one of G4’s recent TV promo spots. Check it out below. You can also see him on G4’s weekly multi-platform hip hop series Freestyle 101 on February 10.
