It seems that Samuel L. Jackson will be looking to attain "The Glow" while making Bruce Leroy "kiss his Converse."
Jackson will star as the iconic villain, "The Shogun of Harlem" Sho' Nuff (originally played by the recently-passed Julius Carry) in the upcoming remake of the 1985 classic The Last Dragon. The original film itself was a tounge-in-cheek nod to blaxploitation and kung-fu films of the 70's, with a type of 80's-era fairy tale vibe. There is no word yet on what type of themes this new film will follow. However, the film's release will supposedly coincide with the 50th anniversary of Motown next year.
The film will be produced by Davis Entertainment's John Davis and Kerry Gordy (son of the original film's producer Berry Gordy.) Meanwhile, Dallas Jackson, who heads the urban label DJ Classicz will pen the screenplay and will also be co-producing the film along with Wu-Tang Clan's RZA.
According to a statement by Columbia presidents Doug Belgrad and Matt Tolmach:
We're thrilled to be working with Kerry Gordy as he continues his father's legacy, and we're confident that he along with John and Dallas are the perfect team to develop the project. Belgrad also said. They will capture everything that people love about the original while also bringing a fresh edge to the remake.
You know what?...Whatever. Just please, PLEASE don't ruin my childhood.
